If you had to pay

To be part of The Bump, would you? The reason I ask is because there is this new Mom's site here in Australia that sounds similar to The Bump except that there is a fee to access it - $3.80 a week or $99 upfront.

I have been thinking about joinng it because I miss having Mom friends, it's not the same as it was when we were living in Seattle. I think 98% of my friends with kids work so it makes it hard to do playdates. WWYD? Pay the money & join or just find other free meet up groups?

  • I'm cheap. I wouldn't pay.

  • If I knew it was a really active site an had a lot of gtgs and all I might pay. But I'd probably do the weekly for a little bit to check it out. Is the $99 lifetime?

Yeah, $99 doesn't seem terrible if it's lifetime. But, I think Jill is right, doing weekly for a little while to see if it's active enough to make it worth makes sense. In your situation, I think I would pay. Living here (with other ways to connect to moms) I probably wouldn't.

  • I'd definately do the weekly thing too....

And what a tough question for myself....  My closest Mommy friends from here are my life savers.  My friends pre-kids don't have kids of their own, so I'd be alone.  There are other ways to make friends....but I'd still feel so alone!  Now that I have Mommy friends, I don't think I'd pay for access to something like this.

  • Same as Jill except I do like the added security a site like that would provide where not just any ol' phycho can be on line and read your posts.

That kinda makes it worth it.  Also what's the exchange rate?  I feel like $99 there is a bit cheaper here, right?

When we first moved to Bellevue I joined a mom's group and paid $25/quarter for GTG's and a chat board.  I got 1 friend out of it I still keep in touch with but all in all I'd say it was worth it for the exposure I got from it.

  • there is no way I would pay.  Do they offer some kind of free trial period at least so you can see if the boards are active?  It would suck to pay $99 and be the only one there...

The $99 is for a year! I think maybe I will sign up for the weekly & just see how it goes. I am sure it won't be anything in comparison to all the lovely ladies here though!

  • $99 for a year? Nope. I'd join a play group or sign up for swim lessons and go to the park and start stalking other moms to make friends!!
