Trouble TTC

Re's Advice or Stick to my guns?

We've been waiting to talk with our RE since our failed IVF cycle. She finally called, and of course I missed it, so she called my husband instead. While fantastic, he's not as up on all the latest as I am. He told her we wanted to do a fresh cycle, and she was pushing to go with the frozen embryo we have left. She said the success rates are basically the same.

While I understand it's easier on the body, it's almost as expensive to do a FET since we have no insurance for that, and we do for a fresh cycle. Plus I just feel like I want to give a fresh cycle another chance. What if our embryo doesn't thaw? She's willing to do it, but I feel strange going against her professional opinion. We have a WTF on the tenth, but I'm already on BCPs so the next step has to be decided now. Just wondering WW3T do?

(PS: She doesn't want to chage my protocol despite the 5 eggs from 12 follicles debacle and 4 of them being 13mm and 1 32 at trigger. This seems weird to me.)

Wait, you're saying you are OOP for FET but some insurance coverage for fresh? Then yes I would def. stick to your guns and do fresh if you feel your body can handle another ER cycle.  Good luck!

Since you have the insurance coverage for fresh IVF, I would probably stick to your guns and do that first.  It may be harder on your body, but if it didn't work, you may have more than one frostie to try thawing for an FET.  Besides, if it does work (which I really hope it does), you could use the frosties later for siblings.

I would definitely ask her why she doesn't want to change up your protocol when you had so many issues with follicle size and number of eggs retrieved.  I think I would want to at least have something tweaked!  Good luck, hon!

I agree with this. I would do the IVF again and try and get more frosties so hopefully you could use those later. BEST OF LUCK!

  • You've only got 1 frozen.  I know your RE will only transfer 1 at a time, but I'd be a little nervous with only having 1 frozen.  Also, since you had a little bit of an issue stimming the last time, I'd want to have that frozen as backup.  That's just me though.

  • I would definitely stick with fresh since you have some coverage, and I would push on why she doesn't want to change if your response wasn't so good the first time around......  That seems weird to me.

I would definitely stick to your guns about this.  I would even push hard to discuss a different protocol.  Can you get a second opinion?

Unfortunately they're the only clinic my insurance works with. She did say she could change some things about the protocol, but she still wants me on antagonist. I guess because I have so many antrals she's afraid of OHSS? I should be getting my schedule soon so if it looks strange I'm going to call and ask more questions.

Thanks for all your advice ladies. My dad said the same thing, and hubs is on board, so I think we'll stick with the fresh. It would be nice to have even 1 more frosty just in case.

  • I agree...there are too many good reasons to do another fresh cycle to settle for the FET, especially if the FET will cost you more money. Hopefully, at your upcoming wtf, you can go into more detail with her about the quality of last cycle and what did/didn't meet your expectations and her expectations for you and go from there re: tweaking protocol. Good luck!
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
