If you make your own pizza dough...

I have a recipe that I love at home, but we aren't there right now and I want to make pizza tomorrow night for dinner. Anyone have a recipe for pizza dough they love? A whole wheat one would be great, but I can always just do half whole wheat half regular flour too. Thanks!

Re: If you make your own pizza dough...

  • This is what dh uses.  It's quite good, but i think it's more dh than the recipe (and/or i suck at cooking, so it's not as good when i make it).  I'm sure it would be find half/half, but we've not made it that way:

    D's No-Knead Pizza Dough

    2 3/4  C warm (not hot) water1 1/2  T yeast1 1/2  T salt1       T sugar1/4    C EVOO6 1/2 C flour (bread or regular, or a mixture)
Mix yeast, salt, sugar and olive oil with water in a bowl.  Mix in the flour (w/o kneading), using a wooden spoon or electric mixer w/dough hook.
Cover (with a damp tea towel, saran wrap or lid, but make sure it's not air-tight) and let rest at room temperature for a couple hours.  Use immediately or refrigerate and use within 5 days (tastes better if you wait at least a day).  Don't seal it in the fridge, but keep covered.
Preheat oven to 450F with a pizza stone in it.  Dust a pizza peel (or cutting board/cookie sheet if you don't have a peel) with flour.  Pinch off a grapefruit-ish sized piece of dough to use and keep the rest loosely covered in the fridge.  Allow to rest on the peel for 15-20 min, then stretch to size, top and bake till done as desired (~12 min).

  • Mmm pizza! Pizza You can buy pizza dough yeast packs in the baking aisle at the grocery store next to regular yeast. No rise time, and the rest of the directions are on the package. It's a thin crust, but that's what I like. It's really easy. You could probably sub white flour with half whole wheat. All would be too heavy I think.

  • I have a really basic one that I always use, but I use reg flour.

*almost* 2 C flour- somewhere between 1 3/4 C and 2 C. The dough needs to be a little sticky.

    1 C warm water

    1.5 t yeast

Add yeast to warm water. wait until mostly dissolved.

Mix flour with whatever seasonings you like. Slowly add water/ yeast until it makes a sticky ball. Rub outside of dough ball with flour. Drizzle with olive oil or spray with PAM so it doesnt stick to the bowl. Let rise for an hour. The key is to have somewhat sticky dough! Hth, its my Italian grandmother's way of making pizza :)

hahaha! That's how I usually do it too... I'm trying something new by making it, which if it's easy is probably bad because I'll be making it all the time! :)

Thanks for the recipe ideas! I will be using one of them!

My DH does the pizza. He uses this and then just substitutes for 1/2 wheat
