My 7 month old has never been a good sleeper. He has never slept through the night. At one point he was waking up once or twice a night but recently cut 2 teeth and now wakes up 5+ times.

Did your LO ever sleep through the night without doing CIO? I really dont want to do CIO but I also dread not sleeping for the next who knows how many months.

Yes. He is 11.5 months and last night he STTN for the 1st time. Other than that for the past month or so he was waking 1 time a night and eating a full bottle. We did not CIO.

Ok you give me hope!!! I have heard so many family members and friends saying 'you HAVE to let him CIO', 'you are setting him up for bad sleep habits' etc etc etc. I started to question myself. I tried to let him CIO once and I ended up feeling so guilty that I just hated it.

I tried CIO at 6 months. It didn't work. I was going to try again this Friday. He has STTN the last two nights so I guess I'm not going to do it. He only STTN 3 times before that on random far apart days. He was getting up 3+ times a week ago. I hope it lasts!

Cutting teeth and waking 5 times does not equal a bad sleeper. Your LO was in pain. I don't know anyone who'd cio when their lo was in pain. But there are other ways to help your lo get back on their schedule of only waking 1-2 times w/o crying. Chances are if he's still waking that much, he's still teething or something else is wrong.

DS slept beautifully until the 3mos growth spurt (late) met the 4mos wakeful (early) in early December. Since then, he has randomly STTN a handful of times. In the past 3 wks he also dropped to only one feeding a night too, which is heavenly after several months of 3, 4 and 5 wakings. We tried CIO for all of 1 1/2 nights before we couldn't take it anymore. Since he goes to bed easily and always genuinely eats when he does wake up, we're just gradually diluting his night bottles now to encourage daytime eating, and I have faith he'll figure it out on his own.

I wasnt insinuating that teething was why I would CIO. I understand fully that he was in pain, and he now has 2 teeth and continues to wake up. Before the teeth he was sleeping better. I say he is a bad sleeper because he has never slept through the night and seems to only have a few weeks of waking 1 or 2 times before he is back to waking up a lot.

DD slept through the night from 5months-7months and then she started waking up once a night (not to feed). I made the mistake of bringing her into my bed when she woke up because i was so darn tired and now she's in a habit of waking at 2am and coming into bed with me. CIO method wasn't for me. I tried it for 10 min. one night and i will never do it again. I can't handle hearing my baby cry like that.

I just remind myself that this wont last forever, that someday i'll get a good night sleep!
