Angry at C-sect. But love my Delilah

I felt really forced to have a c-section.  GRRRR.  Maternity nurses suck.  One actually told me my baby was going to be 10 pounds.  The dr. on duty not my dr. said that she would come out like the stay puff marshmallow and she probably had uncontrolled diabetes all this time.  GRRRR.... My pregnancy was perfectly healthy and no need for c-section but I finally gave in because everyone was getting on my nerves. My first night with baby I spent coming down off all the pain meds they doped me up with.  I felt like I had PTSD for my first 24 in hospital from the trauma of the c-section.

I have processed the negaitves and now staying focused on the positives.  I get to stay  home from work an extra two weeks and my bf was great during the 15 minute srugery, I don't think he could have handled hours of natural birth.  And my daughter came out so beautiful.  Her big head (15 inches) was not all deformed.  I tried to make the c-section a spiritually positive experience.  Hate the way natural childbirth advocates make  anything else seem less than.

But she is here now and I love her so much.

  • I also had a csection (baby didnt drop after 30 hours of labor) and I understand what you mean about some people making it seem like you didnt really give birth.  I've had people say "oh i gues you just couldnt handle it the other way" and I've even had people say that I didnt give birth because I didnt have to push.  don't let people get you down!  You had your daughter the way you were supposed to and the way the doctors advised.  congrats on your baby!

  • I also had a cs and never actually had any contractions that I could feel, so for a little while i was a little sad that I didn't get to have those experiences, but then reality set in and i understood that my son would have died so I got over it really quick. It sounds though like you could go for vbac if you have another. Before I got pregnant I didn't know that there are hospitals that are more natural birth friendly than others. So maybe it would be worth it to start the search for a new ob that way. Find the hosp you want to birth at and then find the doc that will be the best fit. I also want to say that I took Bradley classes and my teacher Never made it seem like a cs was failure.

  • I know exactly how you felt the first 24 hours after the c-section.  I felt like I got a brief peek at what severe post-partum would feel like and it was really scary.  I still tear up when I have to tell people I had a c-section but it's getting better.  Fingers crossed for a VBAC next time!

I am still upset about my c-section also.  I had hired a doula and was dead set on doing as natural a birth as possible.  My body had other ideas though.  I went into labor Friday night and DS wasn't delivered until Sunday morning.  60 hours of labor and almost 4 hours of pushing and baby was still at 0 station and not moving.  All along I felt like I made the choices and they were the best I could at the time, but I'm still mourning my vaginal birth experience.

The VBAC board is a great place to go to hear inspirational stories.  The I-CAN blog is also a good site for support as well: https://blog.ican-online.org/tag/c-section/

  • Thank you so much for your understanding and support!  If I gave anyone advice it would be to be prepared for the possibility of a c-section and ways to make the experience positive if it happens.  I took my Ipod into the surgery and listened to Buddhist monks chanting while the docs were working away on me.

You are right, the whole thing is a mystery no matter how they come in to the world.  I don't know why she had to come by c-sect and I don't care anymore.  Julius Ceaser was born by C-section  supposedly.  So it has been around awhile.

Oh yeah had sex for the first time after delivery and must say keeping my shape in that area is an added bonus!  LOL!
