Bassinet or Pack and Play w/bassinet feature for #2?

With DS#1 we had a no frills bassinet next to the bed.  It worked well.  I plan to EBF #2 (just as I did DS#1) and definitely want/need a sleeping arrangement in our room for the first few months.  I'm now debating on purchasing a regular bassinet again OR a pack and play with the bassinet/changing table feature.

What do you think?  Experience with either?  I've read some reviews about pack and play bassinets sagging a bit, true? False?  If you used a pack and play with bassinet what brand?  I have found an inexpensive bassinet and most pack and plays I've found are about double the price.  (Also, I do have a pack and play we used with DS#1 as a portable crib- we got it used with no bassinet feature). TIA

EDIT:
Just saw a very similar post in 24 months +, sorry should've looked at all my regular boards before posting :)  Still, if you have opinions please share :)

Re: Bassinet or Pack and Play w/bassinet feature for #2?

  • I would check Craigslist.  I just sold a hardly used PNP with Bassinet on craigslist for $45.  It was pretty much brand new - It was an impulse buy.  When we brought DD home, we thought we might need a second one so we could have a convenient spot to change her in the living room but found that we never used it.  It was this one...

I liked this one better than the Graco one we had bought (Little Hoot or something).  The Graco one had the changing table but it was only attached on one side and when you put the baby on it, the table would lean down and the baby would roll and become quite upset.

This one has a stabilizer on the other end so it was never an issue.  It didn't come with a mobile but that was no big deal.

  • I had a no frills bassinet (borrowed from my sister) when I had DS and that worked out great. This time since I had to give that bassinet back to my sister who's also having a baby in June, I bought a PnP that has the newborn sleeper station and the changing station in it. I'm hoping it helps me out and keeps the noise level as low as possible so as not to wake DS up in the middle of the night. Is it essential? I have no idea, but I'm liking that I have it as options...I think I spent $140 on it. So not cheap. I wonder what other moms with the actual experience of having 2 will say!
  • I had a basinet with DD#2 and I had a Pack N Play for DD#3. I really loved the basinet with DD#2 because it transitioned a few different ways and was smaller but when DD#3 came along we as a family were going out alot to the park and beach and to relatives houses alot more than when we did with DD#2 so it made sense for us to get the Pack N Play. The pack N play that we got transitions from infant to toddler with the bassinet part and it comes with a changing table and musical module so we had it all in one. I used the changing table probably more than I would ever use the actual play yard part, it came in soo handy for us. I set up shop with it in the living room and used it for nap times and changings and then when we went somewhere, we just would easily fold it up and put in the take along case.

  • Our pack n' play(Graco Bermuda) for DS#1 had a changing table that was attached at all three sides(very sturdy).  Then the mattress could be elevated halfway up from the floor of the play yard for an easier reach.  If they still sell this style, I would highly recommend it.

  • I had a Graco PNP with a newborn napper basinet. It also had the changer part and was really convenient as a complete area to take care of baby aside from the nursery.  The bassinet part had vibration, really soft material and played some music.  I think it had a mobile too.  Anyway I found it great and if you are in need of PNP for later use I would go with one of those.
