I posted a while back about wanting to vbac with a uterine extension.
I've since received my operative report and reviewed with a few vbac friendly OBs.
My operative report was sort of healing for me. I found out why I needed the crash emergency section and learned that it was indeed lifesaving for my DS. He had the cord tightly wrapped around his neck which caused the massive decels. He was also OP which didn't allow for a fast delivery (foreceps) when he had the major decels. He came out blue and unresponsive (still breathing) and had an apgar of 4 for his 1st minute, he later got up to a 9 at 5 minutes and is perfectly fine.
My 6cm extension (tear on the uterus while they were trying to pull him out) was caused by him being in "deep transerve arrest"...which means his dead wasn't going down the birth canal the correct way. I remember them having to pretty much shove him back up through me to dislodge him.
They all unanimously agreed that a vbac was not recommended for me because of the extension. They threw out a figure of 10% for uterine rupture which was based off of literature from the ACOG. They didn't cite specific examples so I'm unsure of how real that % is.
I'm confident that a RCS is my future whenever we decide on baby #2. I feel a little bit more peace with what happened after talking with them. One of the OBs actually experienced a traumatic 1st CS with two failed vbacs and said something that comforts me. She said that eventually, it won't matter how your children enter the world (her first delivery was 18 years ago). While the pain is fresh now, down the road it isn't haunting. She was also a huge advocate for finding someone to talk to through ICAN as part of the healing process.
I'm saddened that I don't get the chance to vbac but happy at the same time that it's black and white for me. So now I get to focus on having the best possible RCS experience.
Re: f/u to wanting to vbac with extension (long)
I'm sorry you won't be able to have a VBAC. But I'm glad you got an answer so you can move forward. It's great you have a doctor you can relate to on a personal level too.
You can make a RCS a wonderful birth. I know a lot of the ladies on here have written c/s birth plans. Maybe that is something you can do in the future.
