Stripping membrane Q

Does stripping membranes make labor faster and more intense than if it happens on it's own?

Re: Stripping membrane Q

  • Based on what I have heard no it does not. Stripping of the membranes does not guarantee you will go into labor.

This is true.  I had my membranes stripped and did not go into active labor on my own like the Dr had hoped.  I've also heard of people going into labor after it too.

    It's hit or miss.

  • The membranes are stripped to hopefully start the labor. I had mine stripped in the morning and 12 hrs later my water broke. Coincidence, maybe? Or it might have worked. But it does not make it faster and more intense. That is called pitocen.

  • Mine were stripped at 38 weeks and three days later my water broke and labor began! First baby, 9 hours in labor.

  • I had mine stripped with the first (37weeks) it tore a hole and I started leaking. (labor did not start but then I had to be induced because of it)

  • It just supposed to start labor sooner (hopefully).  I had mine stripped yesterday and nothings happened yet.  It doesn't guarentee labor by any means and will only work if LO and your body are ready.
