Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Getting DD to sleep=nightmare :(

So DD is now a little over 2 months old and since she was about 5 weeks bed time has been a nightmare.  She screams for nearly 2 hours every night, originally her bed time was between 10-11 and I would start getting her ready (i.e. bath/change into pjs, eat etc.) around 8:30 or 9.  However, I thought maybe she's staying up to late so I bumped everything up a couple of hours and still the same fussiness, it's like she fights so hard sleeping now and there is nothing I can do for her :(.  Ughh, I'm so frustrated with this, please tell me it will get better and one day she won't scream for 2 hours straight :(

Re: Getting DD to sleep=nightmare :(

  • Babies sometimes "wake up" when they are around a month old, even if they've previously been kind of sleepy.  It's also normal for them to become very fussy in the evenings for awhile.  My oldest was never a good sleeper & was fussy whenever she was awake- which was about every 2-2.5 hrs to eat until she was over 6mos old.  My second was a lot easier, but she went through a period of time from around 4-12 weeks where it took a good 2-3 hours every evening of comforting, nursing, etc.

I think you're doing the right things by getting a good bedtime routine in place, trying to adjust bedtime, etc.  Some of it just comes with their age/maturity.  It is exhausting, but some babies just need more time to adjust to the outside world.  Whatever you do, don't CIO at this age- she is way too young.

  • Thanks for the advice....we definitely are not going to let her CIO we discussed this with her pedi who confirmed it was not a good idea this young.  I love DD to pieces but she can be soo fussy plus I am still sleeping with her on me at night because she refuses to sleep alone and aside from letting her CIO there really isn't much we can do that we haven't already tried to get her to sleep independently (we tried swaddling, bassinet, 2 swings, bouncer, and crib).  I think once she gets a little older we still doing nap time in the crib and see how that works out :/
