2nd Trimester

Did anyone have a Quad Screen?

If so, did you have the NT scan?

I tried to have the 1st trimester screening with the NT scan and bloodwork, but the baby was too big so they didn't send in for the results and didn't do the bloodwork.

Today my doc asked if I wanted to do the quad screen since I couldn't get results, so I had my blood taken. I'm second guessing myself since I didn't know much about it.

Re: Did anyone have a Quad Screen?

  • its just a blood test, do it!

  • We had the quad screen but did not do the NT scan.

    What are your questions?

  • i am going to do it. i guess it just shows some things in your blood that can indicate a higher risk of downs and neural tube defects. i have to get some other blood work done so i figured it wasn't going to do any harm.
  • Didn't have the NT scan, but I am having the quad screen.
  • I had it done, but not the nt scan.  I should get the results tomorrow.
  • I guess I didn't really have any questions, just wanted to see if other women got it. So I guess it doesn't sound much different than the blood work portion of the 1st tri screen, which wasn't ordered because they couldn't do the NT on me.

I'm also having my 20 week ultrasound next week.

I'm just 2nd guessing myself because I tend to worry, and I have no risk factors and I"m 27, so if the number comes back with an elevated risk I'll probably be freaking out for nothing. I don't know whether I'd elect for an amnio or other invasive test.

  • I had the quad and the NT scan.  Our quad came back with an increased risk for downs, and they offered me an amnio - which I declined.  Some people say don't get it because it will make you worry more if it comes back with an increased risk for a defect, but others will say that it's nice to know that there could be a problem at delivery, although this blood test is nowhere close to being 100% accurate.  It's really a personal decision.

I understand what you mean...I was 24 at the time and probably didn't really need to do it. But we would rather be prepared and know if there was an issue before baby got here. I would just try and relax...easier said than done. I also figured if I didn't do it, I would spend my entire pregnancy worrying that there was an issue.

  • We did the quad but not the NT. We only did the quad because we decided that we wanted to have a little "heads up" if there was something wrong but we wouldn't have had a amnio done even if it was elevated.
  • i did not do the first trimester u/s because i was not sure what i was going to do with the information. i did just have the quad screen done last week.

  • How long does it take to get the quad screen results?
  • My baby was too big for the first one also.  I did the Quad screen and the bloodwork came back "normal".  Definitely worth it.  I chose not to have the amnio due to those results.  I'm hoping for healthy!
  • My doctor only recommends the NT scan for women over 35.  She does recommend an AFP so I did that.  I'm not sure if its the same as the quad screen but I think its at least associated with the quad.  I would recommend reading about it because there are false positives and the statistics didn't leave me feeling very confident about the test.  They said it would be about 3 weeks before I get the results.
