Eco-Friendly Family

I have an EFFing confession

We're about to buy an SUV.  Never in my life did I think I would utter (type) those words, but it seems that it is true.  We need a second, larger car now that we have 2 kids under 2 and all the gear that goes with them.  Especially when we go on longer trips to visit family and need the PnPs and what not.  I'm justifying it because A) my brother is selling it to us for WAY less than it's worth, and B) since I stay home it will probably only get used once a week or less.

Please don't stone me or kick me out and make me go to the other boards!

Re: I have an EFFing confession

  • I own an suv and have for over 7yrs. If they try to stone you we can block the rocks with our massive cars..
  • Loading the player...
  • I also drive an SUV - we needed the space with 2 kids and a dog.  I did the best I could and got one with the best gas mileage I could find.
  • Yes

    I appreciate the back up!

SUV here too.  I plan to scale down when the kids get older.  I try to "make up" for it in other ways & I try to avoid short trips that I could walk/bike instead.

I have a Scion XB. Not "necessarily" an SUV but close... I plan on getting a van eventually one day too. Sometimes you just need more room for your growing family!

I use the clorox toilet wand, too.  It's my one non-EF cleaner that I just cannot give up.

We have a Scion XA now that DH uses.  Fantastic gas mileage, especially since he drives all day for work, but certainly not accommodating for small kids and all the crap that comes with them!

  • I have an SUV and I drive it everyday if that makes you feel any better.  I am amazed that you only use your car one time or less a week!

I run an in home childcare, so I have to be home from 7-5:30 with the kids.  After that we occasionally go out, but that's something that we would use DH's car for.  I'd only use mine on days when I'm closed or don't have any daycare kids.

  • We bought a Honda CR-v about a month after E was born!  And it gets great gas mileage -  better than my last car actually.  28-30 mpg, mainly highway driving.

  • B & I both drive SUV's.  With our winter, we need the AWD & ground clearance.  When I say "I couldn't get out of my driveway without it" it's not an exaggeration.  And I sorta like making it to work so I can, you know, get a paycheck and pay the power bill and all that.

  • I'm in the same boat. MIL got a new car and 'sold' us her SUV for practically free.  I even drive it everyday but I end up not traveling a lot of miles overall.  Before this we all crammed in DH's teensy 2-door car but since the car seat had to go behind the passenger's seat, that was pushed all the way up and I had to squeeze behind the driver's seat.  Traveling like this for two months had preemptively erased any guilt I feel about any car I drive.  I cannot go back to that!! It was terrible.
