Cloth Diapering

Newb-talk to me about poop

So I just started CDing today. I have gdiapers with cloth inserts. LO is only 7 weeks so her poop is still runny so I can't just dump it in the toilet. How do you clean the cloth or do you just leave it and wash it when you clean everything? Also, how do you store the cloth until it is time to run the wash?

I have currently just been switching out diapers and then rinsing the cloth insert in our utility tub (which we don't use figure I'll just clean it at the end of every day) and then throwing it in the washing machine (will run at end of day). However, I feel this is kind of gross washing in the utility tub and currently I'm leaving LO on the changing table while doing all this. She's 2 ft from me (we have a changing table in laundry room)  but it makes me nervous and as she gets closer to rolling that can't continue. So give me ideas and insight, please! Thank you!

  • Until they start solids, you don't have to do anything. Just put it in the washer and go.

So it doesn't stain? And it cleans ok? I was going to try to wash it with other clothes so I didn't have a load of just 6 cloth inserts and waste water, etc but if putting the poopy dipe in is OK maybe I won't. Thanks!

  • It might stain, but if you put it outside in the sun with it still wet, the stains will disappear like magic.  :)
  • I bought a step-open garbage can and line it with a pail liner (which is waterproof / poo-proof, but some people just use a pillowcase).

Until you start solids, it really does all wash right out. I do a pre-rinse cylce (just rinse-and-spin on cold), then a hot wash, dry outside. Seems to work fine.
