in another post someone stated that their mw broke their water before the induction. If I ask my dr will they do this before administering the pictocin(sp?) ? I would rather have them break my water, and bounce on the exercise ball and walking around~ even running around if that would help.
I really do not want the pictocin due to I hear it is not fun for some. Just a bit nervous.

Re: induction question...
I was induced at a hospital, not with a midwife, and they started by breaking the water. Their preference was that doing so would start labor by itself and they could skip the pitocin.
In my case, that didn't work and they had to give pitocin, but they waited two hours after breaking the water before going that route.
I wasn't allowed to leave the bed, however. It was a 38-week induction due to high blood pressure and activity was an issue. I'd expect a better chance of breaking the water working on someone who can move around, is already somewhat dilated/effaced, is further along, etc.
They broke my water after they started pitocin because I wasn't progressing at all. Once they broke it, things moved MUCH faster.
But they had me in a rocking chair and just moving around the room once I was on pitocin (because I was hooked up to the IV... they didn't want me walking the halls dragging the IV). Before pitocin, they were using misoprostol to ripen my cervix and I was able to walk around as much as I wanted on that.
Being induced was intense but not too bad... I wanted a natural med-free labor but that didn't happen. Once I had the epidural, the pitocin-contractions didn't matter anymore (but before I got it, they started out OK and got realllllllllly strong).
Add that last paragraph onto my reply as well. Same situation.
It really depends, on multiple factors.
How far progressed are you? They can't break your water if you are 0 cm dilated (like I was with DS).
Also, has baby dropped? DS was so high that they couldn't break mine until he had dropped to a certain station (don't remember what exactly it was now) due to an increased risk of cord prolapse.
So all in all, I had to start with pitocin; then get a balloon cath with pitocin; then once I was 5-6 cm and DS had dropped, they broke my water.
ha ha ha ha ha that is funny.
I was at L&D yesterday and told one of the nurses about that crazy one a few days back that wanted her dh to get the hook and break her water due to her dh was a nurse. she was shocked!!!! and that we all doubted that her dh was really a nurse due to her asking us mere mom's to be if we thought it was a good idea... she was speachless. she will be our nurse tomorrow and I am bringing my laptop to show her!
I am 3cm dialated and 90% effaced.
baby has dropped and is in position for birth.
I also am not interested in pitocin, however my doc said once my water breaks i will be mostly confined to my bed because they are worried the chord may slip down if I'm up and about bouncing and walking.
I hope things just go on their own.
My SIL just had her baby and she was induced in a hospital by an OB. They broke her water as a first step and had her hospital walk and see what happened. If she hadn't gone into labor they would have started with the pitocin. Most places will only give you 24 hours once your water has broken before the baby has to come out one way or another. The amount of time they give you to progress on your own probably varies place to place but I think most hospitals would at least let you try.
I live in a different city than SIL and my midwife told me that if I get induced the OB on call will do just what I described. Water break and walk, if that doesn't work, move on to pitocin, and then within 24 hours possible c-section if no results.
