  • Your usual "good sleeper" is up for the day at 4:55 and your normal "well behaved" preschooler is having a tantrum because mom said no to wearing her superhero cape & eye mask during breakfast.

It's only going to get worse, since it's overcast & dreary and we have to drive to my parents this afternoon for the wake for my cousin's 19 yo step-son who died in a car accident on Monday. I am counting the hours until 9 pm when hopefully we'll be back home and back in our own beds.

  • Your toddler wakes up with a piercing scream because he got his foot caught in the slats of his bed.

Your child starts throwing temper tantrums two seconds after he gets up because you told him no, he can't call his Grammy at 7:00 am.

The coffee maker stops working mid-brew, leaving a sludgy brown mess behind.

The dog is already trying to eat the cat before the sun comes up.

[None of these happened today, thank goodness, but each of these has happened in the past two weeks.]

  • Your child sneaks into your bedroom at 5:55 with the Giggle Elmo and holds it next to your head then shakes it.

No one wants to be woken by Elmo.  No one.

  • You wake up suddenly from a nightmare where your son was kidnapped and someone tried to blow you up.

Yes, this was this morning.  I'm in such a crappy mood now.

  • Your easy-going baby will NOT allow you to put her down and her answer to anything and everything is "NOOOO!"  This is day 3 of this. . . .

when your child wakes up "quacking" and you go in to discover that he has shed his diaper and is playing in his very own puddle.

  • Breakfast ends up on the floor instead of in the tummy.
  • ...your LO refuses to eat her favorite breakfast, then refuses to wear pants (or any type of bottom), then doesn't want put on shoes. REPEAT.

DD is a spunky child, which I like mostly, but holy hell she is hard to work with these days.  Sometimes it's a major accomplishment just getting her out the door.
