3rd Trimester

are cortisone shots OK during pregnancy?

my carpel tunnel is getting out of control.  it's affecting every single aspect of my life.  i'm going to see a orthopedist today about it and was going to ask him if i could get cortisone shots to reduce the swelling & inflammation.  from what i've read online, cortisone is OK and is only absorbed into the tissue and not the bloodstream.  i was just wondering if anyone else has had cortisone shots (for any other reason) during pregnancy.

TIA!

Re: are cortisone shots OK during pregnancy?

  • I've had carpal tunnel since my second trimnester and it's horrible, so sorry for your pain. One of my doctors stated I could get cortisone shots to help me get through the end of my pregnancy (since it has gotten worse) but all the doctors (orthopedic) I called stated they would not give the shots to pregnant women...very frustating.  My OB stated the same you did as above; it is absorbed into the tissue not the bloodstream. Some doctors I suppose feel it's unsafe.
