bf'ing marathon = meltdown <vent>

LO was cluster feeding all day today. She'd finish both sides in about 45 mins and then I'd burp her and hold her upright for another 20 mins or so for her reflux. I'd try to put her down to go to the bathroom or fix myself something to eat and she's start the hungry cry all over again. I was literally feeding her about every hour.

She was attached to my boobs all day and when she wasn't nursing, she was fussing around to nurse again. I tried stalling her with the binkie because my boobs felt like they were going to fall off and I wasn't even sure if I had enough milk to feed her again so soon, but that didn't work. I've never felt so frazzled before with her! She only took one nap all day so at least the girls got a few minutes rest then.

DH was at class straight from work until 10pm tonight so I didn't get a break all day and I just lost it. On top of the marathon feeds, there was a lot of vomit, spit up, diarrhea and inconsolable screaming so I had just had a rough day. He came home and I asked him to finish rocking her to sleep since she was almost out. He was eating and said he would as soon as he finished his dinner. Ummm... I'm sorry, but last time I checked, I didn't get to finish any meal in one sitting today and I needed her to sleep! Ugh! I was so annoyed with him and I just burst into tears while I was pumping (attractive, I know). He apologized like crazy and started cleaning the house for me, but I knew it wasn't him really. Just one of those days. Seriously hoping the marathon ends soon! Pray for my boobs! ;) Vent over.

  • It feels like you were looking in my windows and describing my day.  LO was cluster feeding every hour for over 5 hours today.  My boobs/nips are so over used today that when LO eats it makes me want to crawl out of my skin.

  • We're going through the same thing right now. Constant feeding and crying the second she gets put down. And she won't nap now unless she's being worn or held. I'm hoping it's a quick phase. She hardly ever fussed until just a few days ago.

  • I hope you and your boobs are getting some much needed, well deserved rest tonight. Aubrey was the same way tonight from 7 til 11:30. I had to end up supplementing a 4oz (!!!) formula bottle to satisfy her. I'm not sure if you supplement but it might be worth trying.

  • I know some people are against bottle feeding BM, but that would have been one of the times I would have done it.  I usually have a few extra bottles in the fridge (DH does one feeding a day), and when i was in that situation I would have used one or two of them to give myself a rest.  Maybe you can do that next time, as it does seem like you pump. :-) Sorry about your boobs! I hope she does better today...

  • Sorry to hear everyone else's boobs are dying too! Supplementing is sounding better and better by the minute!

  • Aw, I feel for you!  Cluster feeding is rough on mamas, but you have to remember they do that to increase your supply when they go through their growth spurts...but not having a break all day can seriously push you to the limit :/  Hope today is better!

  • Hang in there.  DD did this about a month or so ago and I too was in tears and DH didn't know what to do with me.  I would nurse, nurse, nurse all.day.long.  My girls hurt so bad.  After about three days of this I started to supplement with a bottle of BM to just give the girls a break.  And I actually broke down and gave her formula after about 8 hrs of feeding (knowing I had nothing left) and it helped.  **hugs**

  • Thanks everyone! She ended up sleeping for 5 1/2 hrs straight last night! I guess she was pretty exhausted too. I'm armed with a bottle today, ready for the craziness, but so glad she finally gave up and gave me a break! :)
