Hey i know this is just another person ranting and raving on her but if i dont let this out im going to  go insane.... I have been at my job for 19 months finally have been promoted to server but there trying to force me to nigthts..,. I HATE nights i dont like them at all. I am so frusterated because it took me this long to get to this point and now there saying....uhhhh nights or nothing pretty much so i feel like I can leave this place because than i will have to start over as a host somewhere else my husband doesnt understand what im going through..at all and if i leave here i start at the bottom.... plus I STILL HAVENT GOTTEN MY 1st doc appt. SOOOOO ANNOYED

    Can you still keep your host job until an earlier shift opens up? Otherwise, ask them how long you will be on nights. If the promotion is "naturally" from host to nighttime server to dinnertime/later afternoon server, then I guess it's the price to pay so you eventually have an earlier shift. Otherwise, if other people have been promoted from host to early shift, then I'd either wait (keep your host job, don't start over somewhere else- tell them that "I appreciate the offer, but I can't work nights" Make up some excuse as to why nights just don't work for you), or take the night server job with the understanding that if an earlier shift opens up, you are the first one to be considered for it.

    That's slightly odd. I work in the restaurant business as a manager & we can never find enough quality people for day shift.  We get plenty of night crew with students & people who have another job-but day shift is another story. 

    FWIW I would apply at some other places. Server jobs sometimes are easy to get & you usurally have to have no experience (unless you are at an upscale place or doing special events) to get the position. Just a great personality.
