Would you eat breakfast before induction?

I am getting induced tomorrow at 7:00 am. Dr. told me I can have a normal breakfast....my hubby thinks it's a bad idea.  Thoughts?  I was thinking maybe a late night snack since I am sure I won't sleep the greatest......

Re: Would you eat breakfast before induction?

  • I would, but then I don't do well without food for very long.

  • Eat something light- you will need the energy.
  • I'd eat something high in protein and not a lot of fat.  You will want the energy but as my midwife also has stated, don't eat anything you wouldn't mind seeing again. ;)

  • I ate a bowl of cereal before i went for my induction. my dr recommended it because once your up at the hospital they wont give you anything except popciscles, ice, water, and juice.

  • I would eat.

Things I ate in labour: spring rolls, a pulled pork sandwich, a fruit bar, a DQ blizzard.

    Personally, eating was great.

  • I wouldn't devour a huge feast, but I would eat SOMETHING. I was in the hospital the night before my induction and wasn't allowed to eat or drink after midnight. It was a long day and I was absolutely starving by late that night when the baby came.. First thing DH did was order me a pizza!

The real moral of the story is to do what feels good! I mean, is your DH going to eat breakfast? Probably, and he doesn't have to PUSH OUT A BABY. No way do I skip meals if I have anything to say about it.

  • Thanks everyone. I guess if the dr. said it was fine then it should be good...I usually eat oatmeal so it shouldn't be too bad.
  • I'm scheduled to start induction at 4 a.m. and I'm not allowed to eat anything after midnight... :( I think I shall move my midnight snack up to an 11 p.m. second dinner the night before. :)

  • If your doc said it is okay, I would DEFINITELY eat!

My induction (emergency) took 51 hours and I had skipped breakfast the morning I was sent in- worst decision ever!  I wasn't allowed to eat anything save ice chips and I was STARVING and needless to say probably didn't have a ton of energy for everything the induction put my body through.

You will need the calories, eat up girl!

OMG...really? At first I thought you were kidding but I don't think you are. Pulled pork? That is impressive...

  • Hmm, I just asked my doctor this this morning.  I go in for my induction at 7pm next Thursday and he told me no food after 1pm that day.

  • On my information about induction sheet at the top my doctor wrote eat a big dinner in huge block letters. She recommended eating as much as I can get in me so I have energy and can make it through the whole process.

Not kidding. My early labour was pretty easy, so I just ate normally. By the Blizzard, things were getting more serious, but I still wanted food. I quit eating at about 9 pm, started pushing at 11, and had a baby at 1.

There really isn't any reason not to eat, if you want to. I never puked, and two hours of pushing was a marathon for my poor body. I needed fuel.
