Seriously, Thrush AGAIN!

Ok, I can't get rid of it! I've been getting in every month since the baby was born, so almost 6 months. I'm taking probiotics, using nystatin and I started gentian violet today, and I just started Diflucan today, too. . It seems to be more painful each time, too. It started bothering me a few days ago so I started nystatin and by this morning it's so painful. What else can I do to not keep getting it? It clears up then 3 weeks later it back! Ideas??

  • Maybe you aren't getting rid of it.  And possibly it's in your ducts

  • BTW, the baby doesn't have it, nor did the last 2 timed I've had it, at least it's not visible in her mouth.

So how can I get rid of it?
  • How long do you take diflucan for?

Ditto that if it's coming back that quickly you're not getting rid of it to start with.  If you usually take one Diflucan (it's one a week, right?) then try taking it for 2 weeks. Or maybe LO does have it and is passing it back to you quickly? Try treating LO with the genetian violet if an extra week of Diflucan doesn't do it?

And eat a lot of yogurt? Good luck!

  • I'm taking it for 7 days. I guess I try to get a refill for another 7 days and keep treating with topicals, too. I don't like to eat yogurt but I do take probiotics.
  • I think you need to take it at least 2 weeks at this point.  And continue to treat your DD, just in case.

Make sure you are treating your nursing pads/bras/shirts too!  (I figured out after a while that I was dumb enough to continue reusing mine when I had yeast without treating.  So I finally started using disposable ones and when I finally had the yeast gone for a week or so, I didn't really need the pads anymore so I just threw the reusable ones out (I had made them and I didn't want to worry about trying to treat the yeast)

  • You may have to cut out ALL sugars, bread, fungi, and fruit in order to fully get rid of it in your body.  Check out candida diet for more info.  I know a few friends who had to go this route.
