toys for travel-any recommendations?

We are going on an 8-hr road trip soon and I want to get Henry a couple of new toys for him to play with on the trip. We did purchase a portable DVD player and headrest so he can watch that, but I thought a new toy or two would be a good idea, also. Anyone have any suggestions??

  • Jacob has a Leapfrog Leaptop that he loves.  It has music, letters and animals.  He loves pushing the buttons and hearing the animal noises.  He might even be learning the sounds to letters too, as he does them with the recording sometimes.  It keeps him entertained for a while and can easily sit on his lap.

The aquadoodle saved our lives on our last road trip!! We got the travel one and some accessories. Stickers are fun too. DD didn't care for the Color Wonder products, but my friend who travels a ton with her twin boys swears by these.

  • Is he too old to have his interest held by board books?  The peek-a-boo type are a hit with my DS on our road trips, but I know he's several months younger than yours.

Ditto the aquadoodle! Or any of the magnadoodles.

Another vote for the magnadoodle.  If you get the travel size one, make sure it has the "switch" to wipe it clean.  We have one that you have to color on the back to clear it and it's more of a pain.

DDs like books.  We have a shoebox of board books we keep in the car.  Dear Zoo and lift the flap books I think were big at Henry's age.

Last year I got little purse-type things for $5 in the adult section of Walmart and they have gotten a ton of use.  They are kind of like pencil cases/bags that zip at the top.  DDs love to put things in a take them out and zip it.  They often put their pretend keys and cell phones (also huge hits...ours our disney ones from Target) in it along with a Matchbox car.

DD loves any kind of bag or purse that she can put things in as well and the Disney keys from target entertained her for 45 minutes on a drive once. She pretended she was driving the car and locking/unlocking it :)

  • Travel magnadoodle is a huge hit, along with new books, DD watches a lot of videos on long drives.  She just did an 8 hour drive with DH and he said she did great when she had some Wonder Pets, Barney and Kipper to occupy her.  We put them on an old iPhone and she just holds it.
