3 hour glucose test.. ugh

Today was fun. I had to take my 3 hour glucose test. Took the one hour a few weeks ago and it was 158. I had to be below 130. So off to the 3 hour I go.

My fasting reading on the glucose monitor was 108. I think that might be a little high. Waiting for the rest of the results. Guess I will get them in a few days or so.

Anyone else experience Gestational Diabetes?

I had no issues with my son, but might with this one.

I never had to take the second longer test with the first two pregnancies but I did with the twins. They said I was borderline and watched me very closely, but it never manifested, thank God.

I didn't to do the GTT until I was 20+ weeks with DD. I did fail the 1 hour by 7 points and had to do the 3 hours and passed that. I hear it is common to fail the 1 hour test and pass the 3 hour.

It was so boring though and I was woozy the whole time. They had me fast 12 hours and drink the 3x sugar drink and then sit. DH said if I fail again this time we are bringing the DVD player to keep us entertained. We read magazines for 3.5 hours.

I'm a Type 2 diabetic, so I live my whole life like I have GD. 108 is high-your fasting should be below 90. I've been doing this for 3 years (and 2 pregnancies), so if you have any questions, I'm a great resource for you GD girls!

THanks so much. I thought it was high as well for fasting. I saw a chart that said abnormal for fasting is 95+ so I was definetely concerned.

I do think it will be nice to be on a strict diet and hopefully can monitor what I eat and not gain as much.

I will definetely ask you if I have questions once I find out the results. It's nice that you are on the board with me :-)

I never had any experience with gestational diabetes, but I had to do the 3-hour test on Monday because my first reading was 184. I freaked out, but I realized they drew the blood too soon (partly my fault). My results came back yesterday and everything was fine. Thinking the best for you!

I had GD with my last pregnancy and I suspect I will with this one too. I just took a 3 hr test and scored OK, fasting glucose was board line too high. I have to retake at 24 weeks. With my last pregnancy I could control the GD with diet and exercise.. but I have to admit that I didn't love the diet.

I failed my one hour with DD and passed the 3 hour. I haven't had it done yet with DS. Good luck!

I haven't had to yet but I'm sure I'll be in your boat when my ob finally has me take the 1st one. Everyone in my family, both sides, has diabetes and I've never been tested, so I'm fairly certain I have it too. My doc said she'd have me take it earlier than she normally would but I'm still waiting on it.

I also failed the 1 hr and passed the 3 hr in prior pregnancy. I don't remember taking it this early though. I remember being SO hungry by the time it was finally done!

I'm almost 16 weeks and haven't had one...when/why do they get you to take one usually?

I have to do 2 tests. I just found out that my dad has diabetes and when i told the dr this, she said, oh, well you should do it twice. great. thanks dad!

They normally test around 24 weeks for the first test - 1 hour. But my Dr wanted to test me early b/c of fmaily and they said they have seen an increase in cases and would like to test me either.
