Let's talk hair & nails.

So I'm normally a nail biter. I've always kept short nails well mostly because I bite them off. However, during this pregnancy they've been growing rapidly and are so pretty that I actually use a trimmer to keep them at a nice length! I actually have natural white tips!!! Squeeeeee! Now if my hair would start growing I'd be happy Big Smile

How are your nails and hair?

  • My nails were getting really long, then they all broke off and haven't been growing as rapidly as before.  My hair.. is very dry.  I get it trimmed every 6-8 weeks and the last time she cut off a little too much so I haven't noticed too much length.  it is a lot fuller though.

I've noticed that less hair falls out during the day but I still have flat hair. Where's the volume?! Crying

  • My nails are for sure improved since becoming pg.  I made the mistake of getting a gel manicure in early Feb, and that messed them up pretty bad, but now they're awesome again and I love it.

I haven't really noticed anything significant with my hair that has to do with pregnancy (I don't think).  I stopped washing it every day in early pregnancy b/c it was just so dry (but I attributed that to washing every day), and now I've "trained" it so I can wash it 2x/week, and it's the best it's ever been...but again I attribute all of that to a new wash routine, not pregnancy.  Maybe it is pregnancy related though, I don't know :)

  • before pregnancy my nails were super thin. Now they're at a nice length and they don't constantly get bent!
My hair is thicker, but I don't think it's growing any faster than it did before.

  • My hair is twice as thick as it was, and my nails are stronger.  Honestly, the hair thing is a pregnant thing, and the nails are from my prenatals.  My nails grow a lot longer and are stronger when I'm not pregnant.

Edited to add:  Try mousse for volume.  I find that my hair actually seems flatter right now because it is heavier.  Don't try to get additional layers cut into it, because the extra hair will fall out post partum.  I love Kerastase Mousse Volumactive.

Is your hair more oily than usual?  That can usually make it limp.

  • My nails have always been thick and grow very quickly, so now I feel like I am trimming them once a week! Sadly my hair does not share the same traits. It does feel more full, but doesn't really grow any more quickly. Plus I am growing out a terrible short haircut to cover my face for the inevitable puffiness that will result in late pregnancy.

Oh, maybe that's what it is because it is more oily than before.

  • My nails were always thin and brittle before, and now they are stronger and grow a lot faster, but I don't really like to have them long like I thought I would if I could have grown them out before... So I just keep them all the same length with a little white at the end:) my hair has always grown pretty fast, but now its even faster, and I seem to lose less also. Besides growing faster the only other difference is the growth since I've been expecting seems to be more curly... Which is odd, I have naturally curly hair but its never been this curly where it grows out of my head especially at this length...

  • I think pregnancy, and not prenatals, has helped my nails.  I was on prenatals for over a year before getting pg, and my nails are noticeably better while pg.

  • My nails are awesome! There's been a few times that they've got so long I got anoyed with hem and cut them off! haha I need to keep triming for filing for them to stay at a nice length.

My hair, too has been growing like crazy! Last summer it was at an awkward shoulder length stage and I hated it. Now it's mid way down my back, full and has a great shine! I'm starting to think I want to be pregnant all the time! Wink

  • I LOVE my hair now.  It used to be so thin and limp, but it always look full now!  I hardly ever have bad hair days where it looks nasty now.  I think it's growing a little faster, but I'd rather not have it grow faster on other areas of the body : )

I always had hard nails that grew fast so that hasn't changed.

  • I've always had healthy nails, but lately they have been growing really fast. I have to file them back every few days or else they break from being too long.

My hair is naturally curly and already dry because of that, pregnancy has made the dryness worse and it's a frizzy mess and I have to use twice as much product as normal. Not to mention I used to be able to get my hair trimmed every 3 months, well it grows like a crazy weed and I needed another haircut after 3 weeks. I still haven't gone. And it's BIG! OMG!

  • I am very lucky that I have natural nice long nails. I never bite and I never get gel/acrylic because they are that nice! My hair on the other hand is thin and lately hasnt been looking the best. However, I visited my dad at his office yesterday and he told me I looked great and asked if I recently got my hair done because it looked beautiful-soft and healthy. What 59 year old man notices his daughters hair like this? Not my dad, but it made my day!

  • Nails? Not what I was hoping for. Hair? AWESOMESAUCE.

I am also a nail biter. My nails have always been somewhat weak and brittle, and I've had God awful cuticles that crack and bleed since I was a kid. Since getting pg, I have noticed that my cuticles are a bit more tame (which is wonderful!) and my nails do grow out a bit thicker and WAY faster than before (I can bite them off and then have something else to bite within a couple days instead of a week LOL), they're still somewhat brittle - I find them cracking in layers, in the CENTER of my nail, instead of at the quick (nail bed) like they used to...or they'll still crack on the sides. BOO.

My hair, however, is already thick (the hair itself is fine, but I just have a TON of it)...and now that I'm pg, it's even thicker! t *is* quite heavy though, and tends to lay pretty flat. I dont think that I've shed a single hair this entire pregnancy...not to mention that it grows at light speed, so maintaining my short spikey hairstyle is next to impossible. I'm having to suck it up and let it "shag out" a little bit just cause I cant justify spending the money when I just did so less than 3 weeks prior...and it's driving me batty!! I'm considering just letting it go for a while to see how long I can get it before LO is born. LOL Smile But overall, it's thick and lush and shiny and healthy and fantastic. I just pray it stays this way! LOL
