YES! I tried to do a little of it online and that didn't last very long. It's been 13 years since DS was born and half the stuff they have now, they didn't have back then! I think I'll just go in with the scan gun and go crazy with it.
Ugh me too! I figured out the best way to get a good start was to go to babies r us and print out their registry checklist. lucieslist.com also helped me a ton because she outlines all the essentials you need.

It was extremely overwhelming for DH when we went to BRU. We only ended up registering for a few items that day. For the rest of the items, we just added them online. We were able to go slowly and just work on one topic at a time. Also, having the reviws online really helped narrow it down when we were debating between a few items of the same type.

I am overwhelmed but for a different reason, being a Pgal and far along as I was when I miscarried, I cant bear the thought of having to take another registry down. Thats why I still dont have a ticker up.
I can tell you that I did a lot of research for my last one. It gets easier as you add items. Try and find blogs that list out what some of the sesential items are that you might need. The bump even provides a gereral list for you too. I found it really helpful.
Oh yes. I haven't even started one or even really started to think of one. My friend was asking what kind of stroller I want. She was like 'Quinny is great and I really like the one Pregop (something, I can't even remember the name), etc. etc.". I was thinking to myself, isn't it just Graco? So naive, I am.
I'll be braving BRU this Friday after a/s. <gulp>

get lots of recieving blankets....NO mittens! they are a waste of time! we never used then! look for the gerber onsises with built in mittens they were amazing! diaper warmers and boltte stererlizers are a waste of space... they now have bags to steralize in the microwave... bibs dont really get used untill about 4 months so you can hold off on that and you DO NOT need an ear thermometer because their ears are too small! just a simple baby first aid kit is fine.... you can get away without a hanging table i hardly used mine.... it was used more for storage so i sugest just getting a dresser to save space and you can put the changer on top if youd like! i would suggest you do not register for bottles because your baby is going to choose what he or she wants anyways! i went through 5 different brands! if you have anymore advice let me know! PS a garbage can for LO's room is a MUST BUY whether it be a diaper geine or not!
ugh right now i'm irritated by the fact I cant get a product list of things that dont have latex. So now I have to call on EVERY item I register for....Its taken forever!
I started a registry list and picking out things so that when I go, I am not as overwhelmed. I remember doing our wedding registry and I did two dry runs before we did it. We might have to do that this time too.
Yes! it is overwhelming. I have a feeling when we actually go to register it will be pretty smooth though because of the research I've been doing ahead of time. I LOVE the baby bargains book- I have started a private wish list on Amazon with all the bigger things that we want to register for based on the book recommendations as well as recs from other sources, online, friends, familly, etc. I'll print this wishlist when we go to an actual store to register and hopefully this will help with the process since we already have things narrowed down.
I'm in the same spot as you, first kid but little space. I've started a registry on Amazon, currently in private mode, so I'm changing things readily based on research and reviews and tackling it bit by bit.
After the anatomy scan, we'll brave BBB but having already settled on a lot of stuff on amazon, I hope it will be fun and easy to see it in person.
If you have one friend that you trust who recently had a baby I suggest asking them for a list or to go with you to register. And try to pick a friend who might have the same ideas as you about how much stuff is too much, etc. I got a list from one friend (like OP said, everyone seemed to have different opinions, so for us it worked well to start with a list from just one person) and just started from there with my registering. It helped a ton.
so overwhelmed that I am still stalling on starting it!
This - I am doing the same thing. I am instead trying to pick out some of the big items (crib, stroller, and car seat) before even starting on the whole registry. I feel like once I have those figured out, it will be less overwhelming and more fun.

amazon, which is where I did mine, has a feature where you can look at other people's registries. It helped me to see things that other people thought were essentials, even if that particular item wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm very over whelmed by trying to start it online. I feel like I really need to go to the store and touch and hold the things. Since this is my first, I really have no clue about some of this stuff! So I have Lucie's list printed out with her recommended products and will get the BRU list when we get there. I think once I spend a litle time int he store, gun up a few things, I'll feel more comfortable going back and finishing online.
Side note: When I registered online for my wedding I was unaware that many of the items I picked were only available online. A few people mentioned their frustration with this to me.
