Name Question

Hi Everyone!!  I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on a name selection my husband and I are throwing around.  The name is Grayson Elizabeth for a girl.  Grayson is traditionally a boys name but what do yall think of it for a girls name?  We have our boys name already selected but we're going back and forth on the girls!

Re: Name Question

  • Does Grayson have any special meaning? I think it's cute, but I know a lot of people don't like girls "taking over" boy names. That said, if I have a girl her name will be Austen, after Jane Austen, my favorite female author. So obviously I don't share that distaste of girls having boy names!

  • I would not do it unless you want her to be one of many Graysons, and probably all the rest boys.

  • I def. think that Grayson is a boys name and I think she may be confused as a boy on her class list for many years simply due to tradition.

  • Personally I'm not a big fan of using boys names for girls, especially a name that ends in -son.

I do understand why people think it's a boy's name.  However, I have known quite a few "Grayson's" and they've all been girls! Big Smile

  • My name is Elizabeth, and I just wanted to say I have always loved it.  Maybe you could use Elizabeth as a first name- there are tons of nickname options and it is classic.

  • I actually think that Grayson is traditionally used more for a girls name than a boy's.  I was in love with that name for a long time after seeing a baby girl on "A Baby Story" with that name.  If you like it, go for it!

  • My personal thought... If you and your husband love it, then use it... The one thing I was always told when choosing a name for your child, was to stand on your back porch and yell your childs name! If it sounds good together great, if it doesn't you may want to go back to the drawing board!!

  • I do think of it as a boy name, but if it's what you and your husband love, go with it! If you want it to sound more girlie, maybe you could find a girls name that's similar sounding? Like Gracelynn? Good luck!

  • My sons name is Grayson (spelled that way)  I had never heard of it before we named him.  Since then (he is 4 and a half)  I have seen it a lot for boys, never for a girl.  I, of course, see it as a boy name.

She may end up with a boy classmate of the same name, like you would with a Jordan, Jayden, or Taylor.

In the end it is up to what you like best, what about playing with the spelling?

  • I think of it as a boy's name and Behindthename.com lists it as masculine. I don't like it for a girl simply because I think of it as a boy's name...but it is a cute name.

  • I think it is cute, and I think Gray would be cute for a girls NN.
  • I like the name Grayson alot, but it is not very feminine IMO

  • My son is Logan and while it is a very masculine name I met a girl named Logan and it was so darn perfect for her!

I am a fan traditional spellings so I would go with Grayson, but you could actually try a different spelling since it is an unusual name to begin with..... For a girl, I think I have seen.....

    Gracyn

which to me looks more feminine.

    Cute!

  • I know a couple who have a little girl and her name is Gracyn, pronounced the same way as Grayson.  It just looks feminie.  I think it's a cute name!

  • I meant "feminine".  Sorry, my pregnancy brain is messing with my ability to spell and talk these days!
