Poll: What were you going to name your kids when you were little?

In 4th grade-ish - If I had a girl, I was going to name her Heather (after my best friend).  If I had a boy, I was going to name him Joseph (after a boy I had a crush on in 3rd grade).

I did end up with a middle name of Joseph, but b/c of my grandfather's name, not the boy crush!  (lol - but I do remember thinking when I was little that my g-pa's name would be the "cover up" of why I was naming the boy Joseph. Haha)

Then later - maybe high school-ish, I wanted something "fancy" like Victoria or Elizabeth or Samantha. (didn't think of boys names much)

Obviously we didn't go with those (nor are we if we are having a girl).  What were your "chosen" names when you were younger?

Finley Anne and Anderson James, ever since 1989 (I was 12).  My three favorite baseballe players were Steve Finley, Brady Anderson and Mike Devereaux.  Obviously, Devereaux is a harder name to go with.  My Cabbage Patch Doll was name Edie Marie (Eddie Murray).

I effen hate that Finley has become so popular.  I rage about it often. Especially since the name has special meaning to me and for most people they just randomly picked it.  Vomit.

The coolest part of my name choices, Brady Anderson and Steve Finley are brothers-in-law.

  • I don't remember if I thought about it pre-adult life. I know as a 20something, when I started to take the possibility of marriage seriously, I had Owen for a boy (from A Prayer for Owen Meany) and Emma for girl (after my great grandmother) with Anna (my grandmother) as a back up. However, by the time I got around to actually having kids those names were so popular/trendy I backed away.

  • I was always going to name a boy Jacen.  Then I married a Jason and that was lost.

Yes, I know it had stupid spelling.  I was 10, ok?

I don't remember specifics, but I do know that I didn't want my kid to have a name like mine - where people mispronounce & misspell it all the time.

I planned to have 4 girls - Daisy, Lily, Rose and Violet.

For a boy, Forrest - which was my great grandfather's name and Forrest Gump ruined it.

  • The name she has =)

I never came up with a boy name

  • I don't recall boys names but I was dead set on Victoria or Cassandra for a girl.
  • I always said I'd NEVER have kids due to me raising all of my younger siblings, but look how that changed! :)
  • In 4th grade, I was all about Bridget. I never knew anyone with that name, but I remember that I liked it.

For a boy, Michael. That was also my cabbage patch doll's name :)

  • I was obsessed with Little House on the Prairie when I was in grade school. I wanted to name my daughter Melissa (after Melissa Gilbert) or Laura Elizabeth after the main character. My little sister ended up with the name Melissa. I also used to watch Jem and the Holograms and wanted to name my daughter Jerrica. My how things change. :)

Christina.  I LOVED the name Christina when I was in elementary school for some reason.  Didn't have a boy's name picked out because boys were gross and smelly.

  • Lauren Ashley was my top name for a girl.  I've come across that name a few times.

Aidan was my favorite boy name after watching Aidan Quinn in some 80's movie and I totally fell in love.  Even as recent as being pregnant with DS 4 years ago I still loved it, but the popularity of it was just too much.

  • BUBBA AND BERTHA....LAUGH If you must....but DD and DS will thank me later. =)

  • Jenny - I thought it was the most beautiful name out there. Later in high school I liked Paxton (for a girl, and after reading it in a Danielle Steel novel - gag!)

  • I had a guy friend with the name Alex in H.S., and I always loved it.  Then I dated someone named Alex, and he turned out to be a jerkwad, so it totally ruined it for me.

  • I really loved me some 90210 so Kelly and Brandon. Todd was my second choice...not sure why but it's what I named all my boy babydolls.
  • I always like Elizabeth and Mariel for a girl. Elise as well.

For a boy, I liked Alexander, Nicolas and Philip. Still do like them although we likely wouldn't use them.

Because Jacen would never be misspelled, right?  Stick out tongue

I wanted a Savannah.  Desperately.  And a Samantha.  They were also going to have a sister named Kristen.

A boy would have been Gabriel (my dad's name).  And that is Joseph's middle name.  It would have been his first name, but my sister named her daughter Gabriella.  There was no way I was pulling a George Foreman and naming him Gabriel at that point.

  • Anastasia Marie

    Evangeline Simone

    Caleb Bartholomew

    Maximilian Drew

I've loved these names since I was a kid.  Not too common and strong.  We would have used Caleb but it was too close to my nephews name and DH didn't like it as much as Cameron.

  • I only had girl names. Gabriella Sage or Alexandrea Sage

  • I"m so impressed that you ladies remember!  I don't!  At all.

I know after my dad died, it was pretty much my plan to name my first child after him.  His name was Michael Edward.  Had Micaela been a boy, she would have been Michael Ryan.  (Ryan is her dad's middle name)  Her dad pretty much had no say whatsoever in her naming.  We weren't married and I didn't care what his opinion was.  lol

  • I don't remember boy names but I was going to name my daughter Megan Avery.  I thought it was sooo beautiful.  Then every Megan I met I turned out to not like so it ruined it for me. :)

  • I always thought I'd have a girl. I wanted to name her Melissa. Now, she would've been a Hanna, turns out we're having a Lucas.
  • I loved Sam for a girl or Tiffany (and call her Tiff of course!). I still like boy names for girls, like Ryan, but that won't happen.

In college I loved Blythe (for a girl after my BFF who I no longer talk to) and seriously considered willow (calling them will) for a boy. That last one was heavily influenced by pot and a lead singer. Thank god I moved out of both phases.

  • I always wanted twin girls and name them Melody and Harmony. Boy names Alexander Nicholas...

But I honestly never thought I would get married OR have kids.
