total. freaking. meltdown.

The three words I would use to describe our night last night.

It started out just like every other night. We gave DS a bath around 8, I nursed him till he got drowsy at about 8:30, gave him his paci and put him in his crib (he has been getting easier and easier to put down). He fell asleep for about 30 minutes then started to cry and wouldn't take his paci back, turns out he was hungry again so I nursed him till he fell asleep and then put him back in his crib. Another 30 minutes go by and he starts fussing again, I knew he probably wasn't hungry so DH went in to soothe him. I start school at night next week so DH will be putting him down while I'm in class and we wanted DS to get used to him (because right now 99% of the time I'm the one who takes care of him at night). Well I guess DS is not cool with that plan because after about 10 minutes of being rocked by DH he started screaming bloody murder. I mean screaming like I've never heard before, he turned bright purple was crying so hard that he was doing the whole shudder in between cries thing. He calmed down quite a bit when I took over rocking him but by that point he was so worked up anytime he would start to doze off he would shudder and give a little sob and then start screaming again. I felt soooo horrible for letting him get so upset but I had no idea he was so attached to having me soothe him at night Sad I know he'll get used to only having DH while I'm in class (and I should be home by 9 those nights anyway) but I have a feeling it is going to be a rough couple of nights starting next week.

And today the little guy seems to have PTSD from the whole ordeal and doesn't want me to put him down for a second Sad

Re: total. freaking. meltdown.

  • Aww, I'm sorry! DD has been having meltdowns for the past few nights. It is SO hard to hear those cries! :( DH usually takes her when I go to bed, so of course he feels like it is his fault. But, after doing some reading, I'm pretty sure she's just overtired and we need to try to put her down earlier.

Hope your LO does better tonight!!

  • Why not have DH bathe him and you can tuck him in when you get home? An hour or so difference in time shouldn't affect him too much.
