How many times do you have to ask?

When I ask DH to do something (little or big) he usually doesn't do it until I've asked at least 15 different times. Makes me feel like a nag but he says that's what he needs, like i almost act as his calendar or personal reminder for everything. Now he's a busy busy man so I understand, but I've always wondered if other men were like this! He always says he "forgets". Do other men have this selective amnesia? :0)

Re: How many times do you have to ask?

  • It depends.  Usually at least 3 times though. I've been asking him to follow up about our tax return for weeks now.  I ask him every night when he gets home and he forgets about it.  Kinda drives me nuts but he has a stressful job and I used to work with him so I know how busy he was during the day.

I know if someone asks me to do something I either do it right away or its on the top of my mind until I do it.  I guess men are just wired differently

  • Approximately 1,000,000 times.  DH makes fun of me sometimes because I have told him the same thing over and over, but I do it because most of the time he forgets or isn't listening in the first place.

ETA: I have to say it's not just a man thing, though.  I frequently forget to do things he asks me to do.

  • YES! One thing that has helped us is that we both use gmail and linked our calenders together. We also have smart phones so our calendar goes right to our phone. We can both add and delete from the calender so it's easy to keep updated. It has really cut down on DH forgetting things. We still have some issues around the house where I have to ask several times before something gets done. But I feel like less of a nag since he does remember more thanks to the calender.

  • Dh isn't. However, I feel so sorry for my future dil with ds#3. The boy can barely remember to get dressed in the morning and he's 11. I hope he outgrows it. But I can really see him as a husband like this.

  • Lets see...maybe 1000 times. It doesnt matter what it is, he blows off any type of home project (large or small) until I b!tch about it for days. I should be fair and mention that he works a TON and I really try to do whatever I can without asking him, but sometimes I cant avoid it. Its a point of tension in our relationship.
