Stay at Home Moms

is this horrible? *lurking*

to want my SO to get a 2nd job so i can SAH with the kiddos??

about us: we both work full time. he works for his uncle doing construction (not very good money / inconsistent work). i work for my sister's business doing sales (which i absolutely HATE, and still want to go back to nursing school). i get paid salary, which is nice becuase with all the doctor's appointments & stuff - it's flexible and i still get paid. we have a DS at home (15 months old) and a DD on the way (due at the end of august)
DD will be born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) and will undergo open heart surgery somewhere around 3 - 4 months of age. which is around the time i would return back to work if she wasn't needing surgery. therefore, i will need more time off of work. (i can do my work a little bit from home...)

i know i'm not going to want to leave her.. especially with her condition. my mom currently has DS 2 days a week, and my SO's aunt has him the other 3 (which there are problems there also...)

I just want to be with DS; and eventually BOTH of them when DD gets here. so am i being selfish? how do i address this to him? we definitely can't afford the cost of living with just his one job now - so he'd have to do something else, either 2 or 1 that pays more & is more consistent...

Sorry this is so long - does anyone have any recommendations? talk me through this..please!

  • My son was born with a birth defect that required immediate surgery.  Due to this condition and the constant medical attention, DH and i did what was necessary to allow me to SAH.  You can PM if you'd like, as I'd prefer not to discuss in such a public forum.  But, if you can make it work with SO simply getting a 2nd job, I would broach the subject with him as soon as possible that way you guys have time to bank what you can and work out all the details before DD's birth.
