I have my NT scan scheduled for June 14. I will be 12 weeks 4 days then. Just wanting to get some more information on what it includes. Do they do an abdominal ultrasound or transvaginal?
Mine was abdominal. I'm pretty sure that's standard by 12 weeks, but I could be wrong.
Here's what happened at mine:
I met with a genetic counselor (who by the way had no bed side manner). She pricked my finger to get blood. I went into the ultra sound room with an ultrasound tech. I had the abdominal ultrasound, they measured his nuchal folds. The tech told me the measurements on the neck, and that they could see his nasal bone. A few days later I got a letter in the mail from my OB office telling me the results of my blood sample.
It was kind of scary, but it was really cool to watch LO move around for about 30 minutes!

I did it. I was 12w5d at the time. The u/s was abdominal for me and it was great to see the little guy again.
I'm kind of a cautionary tale regarding the results though. My u/s looked perfect, but my corresponding blood tests came out with an elevated risk for Downs. We're in the midst of waiting for results from the amnio. I'm glad to know that there is a potential problem with the baby, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that not everyone ends up with stellar results (most do).
Mine was done abdominally and took about 20-30 minutes. I met with the specialist right afterward to tell me the measurements. Then I got my blood drawn and about a week later when I met with my Dr., he told me the results.

Ditto this!!!
Though we actually got a call from the genetic counselor with our results. We opted for another meeting because I was a little concerned with 1 part of our results (T21), but after that meeting we opted not to have any further testing done.
It's pretty quick and painless. Plus it's a chance to see your baby look like an actual baby! Prior to my NT scan the baby was basically just a blob.
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
My NT scan consisted of a 20-30 min abdominal ultrasound. I sent in a blood prick test a few weeks prior to the appointment so I had all the results that day. It was nice to have the measurements from the u/s and the b/w results all at once instead of having to wait another week for the full report. I would ask your doctors office if you can do the blood prick beforehand.

Abdominal u/s at 12w - took about 15 minutes. The tech told me the HB and measurement and said everything looked good overall (and gave us some pics).
Afterwards, I went to the hospital's blood lab to get blood drawn. Called my doctor's office a week later to see if they could give me odds. They did, but said it doesn't really mean much until the 16w blood draw since I'm having the sequential screening done.
My experience: went to a specialist place at 12w,1d. They took less than a vial of blood from my arm. Then we did the abdominal u/s. LO was not cooperating for the neck measurement and my bladder was too full so they had me use the restroom and walk around the office. Then LO cooperated and she got the measurement and saw the nasal bone. She also let me listen to the hb. LO also flipped a couple of times, which was so neat to see. Then the geneticist met with us to give us the pictures and explain that everything looked great, but she would call with two odds - one for Downs and one for Trisomy 13/18 by Friday. My odds ended up being very low. GL!

I had a sequential screen done which includes the NT scan. My scan took almost an hour (LO wouldn't cooperate) and was done abdominally. I was told that they never do them vaginally. I had to have a vial of blood taken and I go back in early June to have a second blood draw.
