Joggers - what stroller do you have?

I am realizing I'm just not going to get back to my old running routine without getting a jogging stroller. I thought maybe I could make it work b/c I really don't want to drop the $$$ on one but I might cave.

If you run, what do you have? I know most people have the Bob's but even that boggles my mind...which model do you have and what is your input on it?

I'm not a marathon runner but I do want to get back into 5ks and maybe a 10k later this year, if that helps. I was hoping to find one on CL but they're few and far between there.

Any tips anyone has on what to get and where to find it?

Thanks!

Re: Joggers - what stroller do you have?

  • I'm not a serious runner, but I jog in the summers, and have just started using a Baby Trend model.  I think it was around $150 (seems $$ to me, but on the mid to low end for joggers).  I have really liked it so far.  I know serious runners swear by the bob, but I haven't had any trouble with my BT so far....

  • I don't run much, but have the Bob Revolution and love it.  I love that you can lock the front wheel if you are going to run, then unlock it for trail walking (which is what I primarily do) and general use.  We call it our Cadillac of strollers, but it was worth it since I use it every single day.

If you run a lot with the stroller, which is sounds like you would like to do, the Bob Ironman is recommended according to their website.  www.bobgear.com and click on "Which Bob is right for me?"

  • I have the baby jogger city elite.  I liked it because it had the locking front tire, as well as a high weight capacity so I can run with him a lot longer then most strollers (until he's 65lbs at which point I hope he just runs with me).

I log about 6-10 miles a week with that thing and its been awesome!!!  But it comes with a $400-600 price tag.

This. REI has a 20% off sale for members (right now actually - you may want to check into it, that's how I got mine). I love love love my bob revolution. It's our only stroller, but it's great for runs, great for the mall, and will be great off-roading so we can walk on unpaved areas comfortably. I run 2-3 times a week with it and we probably use it a total of 4-5 times a week. It's a little bulky in the trunk and it should really come with a water bottle holder (you have to buy it separate), but those are my only complaints.

  • I don't run, but I got a jogging stroller for the dog park and country because they have nice wheels and handle well. I bought a clearanced Jeep Overland deluxe (or sport?) stroller. With coupon, I spent around $110 and I believe it was originally around $250. I can't justify spending the money on BOB strollers, but this one is nice, sturdy, and I like it.

  • I got a brand new BOB Sport Utility Jogger on Craigslist a couple of months ago for $125.  I'd keep checking CL if you want one.  My DH and I both use it to jog with DS and we LOVE it.  Good luck!

  • I have a Baby Trend & love it! I'm a moderate runner: 2 1/2 - 3 miles 3-4x/week + walks pretty much everyday. It does have the locking front wheel - but I think that's pretty standard on jogging strollers, no matter your price point.

  • I run quite a bit...we just bought a two-seater Croozer at Penn Cycle in Woodbury. LOVE IT. It maneuvers very easily, it's cheaper than a chariot, the two-seater was $25 more (it's $450) and it's a 3-in-1 - stroller, jogger and attaches to a bicycle. All parts are included, it's lightweight and it's easy to break down.
  • I look on CL pretty much every day for a BOB. No luck yet. Thinking I might get the Baby Trend or Jeep, since I'm never going to do more than a 5k.

As an aside: at what age can you start jogging with them? I've heard 6 months as long as they can sit unassisted, but I've read 8 months in some places too.

most joggers say to not run/jog before 8 months. I know both BOB and chariot say that.
