So we're on vacation - starting on Friday night he had a cough, then Saturday he had a fever of 101 and tons of snot.
The fever went down on Monday and has been normal since. The amount of snot is ridiculous, but it's mostly just clear. He has a cough, which I am sure is a direct result of the snot drainage.
And he hasn't really been eating since Sunday - so like 3 or 4 days now. He'll have a bite or two at each meal, but not eating like he normally does. We sometimes give him ice cream or cookies just to get him to eat something at all - but he is drinking lots of milk. I know that doesn't help the snot situation, but it's about all he'll take.
Is it just because of the cold, or do I need to get him in to Urgent Care to be seen? I hate to take him in if I don't have to, but I feel so bad for him.
Re: He's not eating :( Need advice
I hate to tell you to take him to Urgent Care when you're on vacation, and I'm not sure what I'd do in your situation myself. But the symptoms you describe sound like an ear or sinus infection to me, at least a little bit.
Tyler gets a lot of them and they typically follow a cold. He usually has a lot of mucus in his nose (read: dried boogies, really gross stuff). But the stuff that runs is usually clear and he coughs too.
The part that is confusing about Fin is that his temperature is normal again. That's why I'm not sure if I'd go to a doctor in an unfamiliar city. Maybe give it another day or so and see how he does. I think kids go through spurts when they don't eat, even when they're totally fine. Could he be teething?
Sorry, I know I'm not much help at all. If you were at home, I'd say probably take him in, I'm just not sure it's worth a co-pay at urgent care. Hope he is better today and you can stop trying to figure it out.

The Chronicles of Justin and Tyler
My pedi always tell me, following a cold, kids may not be that hungry. Just like when we're feeling a little under the weather, kids do too, and just might not be hungry.
I would keep trying to push as many fluids as possible. If you can get away with it, I would hold off on the milk. It really does make snot situations worse. Maybe try his favorite juice, or some popsicles. As long as he's having plenty of wet diapers, he's at least hydrated.
I would maybe give it just a couple more days, as long as everything else stays the same (no fever, trouble sleeping, still playful, etc.)
I'm no doctor, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Follow your mommy instinct:)
I hope he's feeling better soon!
Both of my kids got terrible colds this winter. They both drastically reduced what they were eating for almost a week. When Charlotte wasn't eating much I brought it up with the doctor. He said as long as she was staying hydrated and not showing signs of being overly lethargic it was okay. With Asher (he was 3 months old at the time), they didn't worry about the fact that he was only nursing for about 3 minutes every 3 hours, because he wasn't showing any signs of dehydration (dry lips, dry mouth, no tears etc).
It sounds like you are doing the right thing by offering plenty of fluids and special treats to get some solid foods in him. I personally wouldn't go to urgent care unless his fever started to spike again or he showed signs of dehydration.
Good luck, it stinks that he is sick on vacation
How is he acting? Does he seem like he's in pain or lethargic? If so, I'd probably take him in, but if the fever is gone and he's acting okay I'd probably let this run its course, especially if his snot is clear (whenever my kids have ear/sinus infections, it's green). I wouldn't take him in due to not eating though. I think it sounds normal that he doesn't have much of an appetite. Like PP said, sometimes we just don't feel like eating when we're a little under the weather. I would think as long as he's staying hydrated, he's on the right track. Another thing I would suggest is getting the Graco nasal aspirator (the battery powered one). It's been a lifesaver for us this past week that Lila has had symptoms. That thing clears so much snot, it's ridiculous.
The rule in my house if there is no fever and baby is taking liquids and copius amounts of it then there is no need to run to UC BUT if you are at all worried I would err on the side of caution.
