Trying to Get Pregnant

Those familiar with postpartum charts....

Ok, so I got my first PP AF about 2 months ago. I've been charting since, but it's far from normal (I'm no surprised though). There are several dips and rises in my chart, and my old charts are not like that at all.

I keep thinking I'm ovualting (twice so far, the last time on the 13th), but then it will start to rise and then drop off again. Is this normal? I was using OPK's but of course I ran out right before I think I O'd.

Does anyone have any postpartum charts I can look at? Any idea why it keeps dipping down? My only explanation is that my body is "trying" to be fertile, but without success. TIA

  • Are you nursing? That may affect your ovulation.

  • Yes, I am nursing part time. I know this may affect it, would that cause the dips? I guess I should have realized that haha. It's strange because I really had all the signs of ovulating: cramping, spotting, and EWCM.

It makes sense though that the hormones produced via BFing would cause temp drops.

Does anyone have any charts made while Bfing? I would love to see them.

  • I'm a lurker over here but I've had the same issues. I'm not religiously charting mainly b/c my thermometer is wonky.

But last week I had + OPK's (2 days in a row, so normal) and then no temp change at all.  Then yesterday I  thought I started AF, but today nothing.

I have not had my first pp AF, but I've heard the earlier it returns the less likely you are to ovulate the first few times.

so it's very likely that you're body IS trying to O but not doing so. Also, nursing, like a pp, will affect/delay it (I think this is what's happening to me).

That'd be great! I just want to see if mine looks similar to other postpartum/BFing charts.

  • Ok, so fair warning, I only started charting b/c I notice I suddenly had a chance in CM and I had OPK's, so I thought what the heck.  I haven't had a 1st pp AF, so it's a very short chart, but I did get positive OPK's and I had all the CM signs.  But my temps do NOT at all line up with anything.

Plus I am still BFing 2x's a day, sometimes more b/c of teething, night wakings.

oh and I thought i was getting AF, but it would have been only a few dpo, but now i'm not so sure. I'm pretty sure BFing is screwing up whatever cycle I'm having.

actually now I'm sure I'm getting AF, so I don't think I ever O'd, so now my chart adjusted to start a new cycle. sorry, not very helpful Tongue Tied

I'm still nursing DD, although not as often any more (she's 20 mths).  I am only on my second chart, and honestly my temps are all.over.the.place because DD does not sleep.  So perhaps not so helpful.  But, feel free to look!

ETA:  I got my first PP AF over a year ago, BTW.

I have a few BFing charts you can check out.

I got my first pp AF about 4 months ago (when DD was 10 months old) and I still haven't had a "regular" cycle, and definitely nothing like my cycles were before DD.  Mine does the same thing you described--my body seems to try to O, but it doesn't happen.  So far I've O'ed on CD 37, 27, and 40.

I know how frustrating it can be to wait and wait.  I'd recommend getting some more OPKs.  I've had to use a ton of them (the internet cheapies), but when my body finally O'ed, I did get positives.

ETA:  I'm still partially BFing (twice a day--first thing in the morning and right before bed).

  • Thanks! It was nice to see your charts MsNessa as I can see the same pattern of high temp and O signs in mine, and then the drop. I guess I'll just keep charting. :D Sorry for the P&R earlier.
