failed my 3 hour glucose test...slightly elevated

So I called the dr office this morning because I couldnt wait even though I have an appt today at 2. I asked my results and they said the dr will go over them with you when you come in today. I asked if there is any way she could tell me if I passed or not and she said that it was slightly elevated and that the dr is going to rec that I go to the diabetes center and they will set that up when I come in today. I am so nervous. My fear was them telling me I have to prick my fingers because that is one of my phobias and I seriously have panic attacks at the thought. I am fine with blood draws but pricks for some reason cause me a lot of anxiety. I was wondering if I will have to prick my finger since it was slightly elevated or if everyone who is elevated has to prick their finger. thanks

  • Pricking your finger isn't that bad.  The lancet has different settings so that you can get the most painless prick and still get enough blood.  It hurts but just for a few seconds.  Plus, its not like you have to stab yourself or anything.  Just push a button and its done.  Its better to prick your finger than to have frequent blood draws IMO.  You will be able to do it because you know its better for baby.  Its amazing what you will be able to do for the benefit of your child.

  • Mine was slightly elevated too...  The Dr. had me see a dietitian last week, which was fine.  She has me checking my blood sugar, aka pricking my fingers, four times a day :/  Once fasting, and two hours after each meal.  I'm going back to the dr. tomorrow, so hopefully I won't have to continue this routine after that.

Sorry to hear that you failed.  I have the GD and it's not so bad....I hated the idea of having to prick my finger all day long but honestly you get used to it and it doesn't hurt.  Sounds like you are borderline like me so you shouldn't have any trouble controlling it.  I promise it's not so bad.  Let me know if you have any questions .  i can try to help!Big Smile

  • I failed two of the four draws by such a small amount it annoys me, 10 and 1 point over. I also visited a dietician, got the counseling, and have to prick my finger four times a day. It is pretty quick and painless, in fact, the lancet sounds kind of like a pen clicking and that's the worst part for me, knowing the click is coming. You don't even see the needle (except when you load it) and you can adjust the settings for less depth.
