So I ended up taking C to the pedi on Monday afternoon just for peace of mind. Of course, he was just fine when we were there, but, given our family history of asthma and allergies and the fact that he does have the allergy cough, we're going to start thinking about tests later in the season once the warm weather is here to stay. The other thing we learned is that he has giant tonsils and adenoids. We've never been told that before. She said that if the shaggy breathing that husband C has noticed continues, then we might want to consider them to be a possible culprit.
Thanks for reassuring me that it wouldn't be crazy to take him in!
Re: f/u - asthma check
You shouldn't feel crazy! I've been thinking about you guys.
So, his big tonsils and adenoids could be the problem? Would they have to remove them, or is it something he would get used to and live with?
She said it's possible that they're contributing to some of the symptoms (which I still haven't seen, other than the cough - this is all husband C's reporting). She also said that he might just grow into them, and it will just be something to keep an eye on. Now I'm wondering if that was the cause of all of his sinus issues and ear infections we dealt with in the first 2 years.

My best friend's son is 18 months old and he had his tonsils and adenoids this week. He's had at least one ear infection a month for the past six months. She also said he gets strep or at least sinus infections all the time.
The docs hope this clear it up- I'll let you know!
Definitley not crazy! Better to be safe.
My younger brother had giant tonsils and adenoids. He had strep every single year, sometimes twice a year, from the time he was very young. Since getting them taken out, I don't think he has even had strep once. I remember my mom telling him that the Doctor had wanted to take them out when he was really young, but she felt more comfortable waiting. I think he ended up getting them out when he was 12 or 13.

This is me, exactly. I don't recall ever being told that I had "giant" T&A (I mean, of course, tonsils and adenoids), but I had strep a billion times until I had them removed (I missed 20 days of school in 4th grade due to illness). I had them out when I was almost 10 and never had strep again.
