My poor boy. He is having nightmares, and has for a few months now about 1-3 nights a week. He awakes very upset and comes into our room- sometimes we let him sleep with us, other times we take him back to bed and lay with him for a minute or two.
The thing that bothers me is that is ALWAYS remembers them in the morning, they are very detailed. They range from being about lions, foxes (strange) to last night it was something about pumpkins. You just never know. her than the memory, he is fine through the day.
He has a HUGE imagination and is really into pirates, dragons and other kindof "make believe" things... So maybe it's just differenciating between real and imaginary?
I don't know. I am just worried about him. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks!
Re: Almost 4 year old and nightmares
My son has night terrors and so I don't really know if nightmares are related. I know for us they are more frequent and more intense when my son is off schedule, going through changes (like when we moved), or overly tired. Perhaps one of these factors are affecting your daughter...
Also I would mention to the pedi that this is going on. They know your child's history and so they might have some other ideas.
My 4yo started talking about scary dreams in the last 6 months or so as well. She also has an epic imagination and I think that has a lot to do with it at that age. What we did was ask her about them- "Oh wow, that does sound scary! But you know that witches (whatever) aren't real, it's just like a movie in your head. It's over now, you're okay" She also came into our room sometimes. Actually your post made me realize she hasn't had one in awhile. It always just felt right to acknowledge her dreams/fears and reassure her, and it seems to be working well.
fwiw, I have really detailed, crazy dreams that I remember almost every single night. Some people just have a more active dream life
