I posted a few days ago about how badly i wanted a philly roll but wasn't sure if the smoked salmon was okay. Went to the OB yesterday and it is NOT okay according to him and the brochure he sent me home with. Here's what the handout says:
Do not eat refrigerated smoked seafood- unless it's in a cooked dish, such as a casserole. (Refrigerated smoked seafod such as salmon, trout, whitefish, cod, etc). These types of fish are found in the refrigerator section or sold at deli counters of grocery stores and delicatessens.
The threat is from Listeria. My OB said if I heated up my sushi in the microwave to the point where the salmon is steaming then I could eat it..... (only semi tempting). But we all know that would melt the cream cheese
Oh well!!!! Sorry to share the bad news but I know some of you wanted to know what I found out!!!
Re: Smoked salmon, aka my Philadelphia Roll is a no-go :(
haha with my luck i'd be that 1/2500! But in times of severe craving desperation I may go ahead and eat it anyways
I DID have a moment of weakness in my pregnancy with DD where I went out and got some take home sushi and ate a couple pieces but then felt really guilty and threw the rest away.. LOL.
i had some on friday, i think the worst thing about the smoked salmon are the nitrates...thats why i am giving up it too
boston roll is really good, its cooked shrimp with cucumber and avocado, delish!

Amen! You are at much greater risk of e.coli or salmonella than listeria. (I have stopped eating sprouts not because they are a listeria risk- which they are- but we had a severe e.coli outbreak here from sprouts.) You are also at greater risk of getting in a car accident or falling down a flight of stairs and causing harm to your babe. While I dont think its a great idea to have a cold cut sandwich every day I dont think indulging once is going to do any harm.
This. And this. I love the logical ladies. Here's to letting experience, rational analysis and common sense being your guide rather than blindly following suggestions and "rules."
