High amniotic fluid. Anyone experience this before?

Re: High amniotic fluid. Anyone experience this before?

  • Had my ultrasound today with mfm and was told my fluid was a bit high. I passed out twice while getting the ultrasound done from laying on my back.....so I don't remember what he said my levels are.

I had extremely high fluid with DD which was just below the level where they would do an amnio to reduce the amount.  The main concern my OB expressed was preterm labor, but since we didn't discover it until I was around 34 weeks or so it wasn't as concerning as if it had happened sooner.  I had no complications from it and DD was born healthy a day past her due date.  I do remember the OB warning the nurses and assistants during my c-section to stand back as there was going to be a lot of fluid.

  • I had a ton with DS. They ordered a growth u/s and were going to make me take another GTT test to make sure I hadn't developed late-stage diabetes...but decided it wasn't necessary. I had the exact amount that was the cut-off of "high-range normal", before they would have to drain it as well. My belly was freakishly huge and when they broke my water during labor everyone was amazed at how much came out! Baby was fine though.
  • My OB is having me see the MFM for growth u/s's because my 27w scan showed a fluid level of 20, which is the very highest side of normal.  At my last scan (32w) the level had gone down to 17 so they're not as concerned about the fluid anymore, although they're keeping an eye on it.

  • My fluid was high at my 30w growth scan. I think it was at 24. They said this was the very high "normal" range and not enough to be concerned about yet. If it's still high at 34w, they will check the placenta for problems and may have to do ultrasounds every week. I see a high risk doctor anyway, and he said you'd much rather have too much fluid than not enough.
