sleep training- sample schedule

I know I saw a very detailed sample schedule but didn't take note.  Does anyone have it?  If not, tell me what's worked for you...

Re: sleep training- sample schedule

  • DS has been sttn since about 9-10 weeks and by sttn I don't mean 6 hours...I mean 10.  This last week he has waken up a few times to feed, but I know he's hitting a much needed growth spurt so I'm not thinking much of it.  Anyway, what has worked for us is keeping a very consistent and predictable bedtime routine starting as early as 3 weeks.  It goes like this:

-Between 8:30-9 we bathe him.  Granted, he doesn't need a full bath each time, but we let him play in the water for a few mins each night just to keep consistency.  He likes it and it helps so we do it.

-DH lathers him up with lotion, puts on a fresh CD and jammies.

-I BF in bed with the lights off while DH reads to DS in Spanish and prays. (ETA: DH reads from his itouch so we can keep the lights off.  This will change to reading a book *with* DS when he is a little older.  It's important to note that the nursery is half of our bedroom so we leave the room for at least 30 mins after he goes in the crib and then come back to head to bed whenever after that.  Our coming in and out doesn't bother DS)

-DS kinda nods off on the boob most nights and I offer him both sides even if he seems to be knocking out after just one.

-When he's done feeding I put him in the crib with a paci unless he is completely out already.  If he's still awake I give him the paci and turn on the soothe/glow seahorse.

    -I leave the room.

We let him CIO the first 2 nights of this, but it wasn't necessary after that.  It's a rare night that I have to go back in there to feed again or soothe him.

He has no schedule during the day.  Some days he naps a 3 hour chunk.  Some days he power naps a few times.  But regardless of what happens during the day, this night routine (with consistency!!!) has been magic.

    7:15 bath

7:30 Baby Soothe app music on, dress, story during bottle then crib around 8

We also started this very young too.  I did start the Ferber method about a week back in regards to sleep training and it worked for us:)  We even used it for nap time.  I go back to work and it was essential for me to have D on somewhat of a predictable routine so that its an easier transition for me, my MIL and him:)

I am so sad that you let your LO CIO so young. Shame on you.

Sorry you think I'm a horrible parent.  He cried for all of approximately 15 mins.  He was well fed, had a clean diaper, and had been loved on all day long.  I refuse to believe that crying for that long for 2 nights did any kind of damage to my child.  We had been co-sleeping the 3 weeks up to that and it was not working out well for anyone.  Yes, shame on me.

  • I guess I'm confused...are you asking for bedtime routines?  Or a schedule of when to do check-ins during sleep training?  I read your question as when to do check-ins so...

The first night we checked in with DS at 3mins, 5mins, 7mins, and 10mins.  The second night we checked in at 5mins, 7mins, 10mins, and 12mins.  By night 3 we no longer needed to do any check-ins, because he had done a complete 180 with his sleep.  If I read your question wrong, then ignore all of this  Smile
