s/o Diaper Cream

Are you supposed to use it with every diaper change or just when LO has a rash.  A friend of mine used it for every change and that seemed like overkill to me.

Re: s/o Diaper Cream

  • When I was a nanny and with my niece we only used it when the baby had a rash.

  • Just if baby has a rash. I don't think I've ever met anyone who used it at every change. lol

  • My plan is to use it at the first sign of irritation. So not necessarily every change, but if he looks red or chapped or flaky, I won't wait to see if it gets worse.

  • I used Aquaphore with most diaper changes to avoid rashes. Only used the serious Zinc Oxide cream when he actually had a rash. I think using serious stuff every time would be overkill too.
  • the only reason I can see using it every change is if you find that they're very prone to rashes?

Definitely won't start out from day 1 using it every change. I'm using California Baby and that stuff is not cheap!

  • Only use it when you see sign of irritation.  Or at least that's what we always did when I worked at a daycare working with infants.

I have never met anyone who did NOT use it at every change.

  • Good question. I plan to just prevent rash from happening as much as I can but won't be using/applying cream after each change.

  • I don't use it at all. With DS#1 it never worked. The only thing that worked was corn starch. I bought the J&J baby powder with corn starch. I use it with ever diaper change. Jacob got a rash in the NICU and his skin was broken. Nothing helped until I used the corn starch when I got home.
  • We use it only with a rash...seems wasteful to use it everytime, imo.

  • Oh my goodness NOT every change, just with irritation. Too many chemicals and skin builds up a tolerance. Aquaphor usually does the trick.

Maybe a stupid question, but is Aquaphor a cream, lotion or ointment?  Can someone post a link to show what it looks like, sounds like I need to pick some up!

  • my mom told me to use it with every change, but that was "back in the day" Stick out tongue I only use cream when the LO has a rash, or when they will be on antibiotics because without fail they get horrible diarrhea that causes a rash when while on them.
