I've read complaints b/c it shuts off after 45 min which can wake your LO. Similarly priced, the Homedics SoundSpa Lullaby gets great reviews and stays on indefinitely.
Several people have recommended the Sleep Sheep to me. We registered for the full size but received the travel size. I went into the store to compare to decide if I should exchange it, and I really couldn't tell any difference except for size and price. But people who have actually used them with a baby might know different.

We use the Gentle Giraffe (same company) and we love it. We have it in the travel size and love that it attaches to the crib, I don't know if the larger one does?
Yes, it shuts off after 20 or 40 mins but it isn't a problem for us, We even keep it set on the lower time setting. It helps my DD fall asleep. We have 3 loud dogs that bark and I vacuum around her all of the time... once shes asleep, she sleeps like a rock. The worst thing you can do is keep your house quiet "so the baby doesn't wake".
If my DD is fighting sleep, the second I press play on the giraffe her eyes start to shut, its extremely calming for her but we started using it from day one... even though she didn't need it.
I didn't buy this or register for it, my BFF bought it for me b/c of my love for giraffes but I would highly recommend it to anyone.

we strapped the travel one to DD's car seat and it was a life saver! it is still in her crib and she turns it on from time to time... Totally worth it!

I bought one when we were trying to ease DS from sleeping on us exclusively to his cradle. At the time we tried a Soothie Seahorse (or something similar; WalMart has it) and it worked... but only played or 7 minutes. We have the travel size sheep; we've had it since DS was 6 weeks old and I'm just now changing the batteries. I love it. DS doesn't wake when it turns off, and it plays long enough to put him in a deep sleep. When we transition him to the crib, it's definitely moving with him.

We received it as a gift - and never thought we'd use it. When DD was a newborn, we used the heartbeat setting and had to keep turning it on at night.
Now we just use it to get her soothed to nap or sleep.
But, disclaimer - I have a super-easy sleeper here, and she doesn't need that kind of constant noise all night. We also have a tower fan on in her room to circulate air anytime she is asleep, so that might help, although it isn't loud at all.

We also got it as a gift. We didn't start using it until about a month ago. I turn it on as I'm holding DS to get him to sleep and sit it in the bedroom with him once I put him down. I've never had an issue with him waking up after it shuts off. I haven't had to replace the batteries yet.

We bought the original size and I really liked it but it didn't seem to do much for DS. A lot of babies like it though so don't let that deter you from trying it. He ended up liking the FP Seahorse a lot more and we still use that.
I actually ended up using the Sleep Sheep a lot for myself and it worked great for me. After DS was born I had a really hard time going back to sleep after all those night feedings. I don't know if it was hormones, the new schedule, or what, but it was bad. I put the sheep on my dresser and cranked up the ocean sound. It drowned out DH's snoring and gave me something to focus on so I could relax and go to sleep.

We have the full size sleep sheep and have no complaints. It goes on for naps and bedtime and there is typically never an issue with DS waking up after it goes off. The dogs bark and there is other noises going on and never seems to matter. I would highly recommend this item.
Meh. We have it and I don't think it ever worked much for us, although I still turn it on when she goes down in her crib. DD just isn't soothed by white noise. So, it depends on the kid, really. It's worth the money to try, IMO.
