gym help (rp from health/fitness)

I have 2 choices for gyms in the area that I'm in and have no idea which one to pick so I thought you ladies mightbe able to help... here are my choices:Gym A:5 mins from my house 6 locations in the area each offering different things (all within about 20 mins from me if I chose to go to a different location but I likely won't because I'd like the kids to be comfy at one place)Cost: 90/monthSmaller and the staff know you by nameSmall child care area with very friendly staffBasic equipment2 free training sessionsPool heated to 86 degreesNot very busy Gym B:1 location 12 minute drive from my houseCost:70/monthBig gym with TONS of equipment and a lot of stuff I have NO clue how to useNo free training sessions (how would I learn to use the stuff I don't know how to use??)Childcare area is bigger and the staff was ok, not overly friendly but nice enoughA camera to see your older kids room (so I couldn't see my infant, only my DD)Pool heated to about 83 (cooler than the pool A for sure) very busy at all hours  I'm torn for a couple of reasons: staff at the pricier gym is much nicer and knows you and your kids by name, the cost and the location... any other things I should be looking at that I'm not? Any other input?

Judging by what you wrote, I'd definitely go for the first one.  Even thought it costs a little more, a personal touch means a lot to me, especially when it comes to kids, and also for being motivated to go!  Distance is also a big one for me.  7 more minutes of driving each way is a lot with LOs, and I never end up going to the gym if it's too far away.  And I definitely hate big, big gyms with too fancy of equipment.  I just need the basics, it usually works better anyway!

Have you thought about asking about price matching?  They probably won't, but it might be worth it to ask!

  • Gym A all the way. $20/extra a month seems "worth" what you get in return. Seriously, go with A.

    No...+1000000000. Stick out tongue

I'm a pretty frugal person, and I'll often choose the less expensive option. However, in some cases - as in this one - the extra money does bring quite a bit of extra value with it.

  • Gym A. The extra $20 a month is worth the time you save from driving back and forth to Gym B. I don't like huge/busy gyms also.
  • i agree with pp.  I have been known to pay a lot more for a really nice/super convenient gym...but I always went so it was well worth it.
