I know every child is different....and I'm not even remotely concerned at this point...but what is the average age or range where they start saying words or partial words where you at least know what they're trying to say?
DD is 14 months...she clearly understands everything we're saying to her...will shake her head no....she says "da-da"...but sort of randomly....she supposedly started saying "ba" for bye-bye...but this was at DC so I haven't actually heard it. And she sometimes says "mo"...I think for "more" but again, it's kinda random.
TIA!
Re: DD not really saying words yet...
My DS is almost 17 months and still not saying much. He has only 3 words (besides mama and dada) and still doesnt even say them with much consistency. However, he's always been way ahead of the curve on physical milestones, has good receptive language and can identify a ton of words (like body parts, knows the difference between a red ball vs a blue ball, etc), so the pedi isnt really concerned. She said he's just focused on other things and has learned how to communicate his needs without using words that he just doesnt do it.
My pedi said we would need to worry if he was still behind in speech at 2.
DS currently says Mama, Dada, Bu (Buster our dog) or Du for dog, Boooo with a lilt at the end (balloon), Mo? (more), Moo (if you ask him what a cow says, LOL), No (just occasionally thank goodness), Ba Ba Ba (bottle), S'uuu (shoe), Baaa (ball)
However, I wouldn't really be too worried and if you are, I would talk to your pedi.
Thanks for posting this! I am hoping this is what happens with DS.
We had only mama and da and ella (bella is one of our dogs names and the dog at daycare) at 18 months but this week we started getting where dada, go outside, shooes on , bull, cow, moo, duckducc chichi, dog kitty milk, uicy, more and byebye. we have gone crazy with words this week
DS is 14 months and only just recently started saying ?anana? (banana). He says ma-ma and da-da, but anana is the only one he uses consistently in context.
