DD has been EBF since birth. She hasn't had many bottles since I quit working in December. We introduced the sippy at 9 months with water and juice and she drinks out of it no problems.
At 11 months I wanted to introduce cow's milk by mixing it with BM in a bottle. The first couple of days she took it no problem, but as I started increasing the amount of cow's milk, she began vehemently refusing the bottle. I decided to give it a break for a few weeks and try again after her birthday.
Last week I tried it again - no luck. At her 12 month appt, her pedi suggested just stopping nursing cold turkey and to just offer milk in a sippy at every meal. That didn't work either.
I wouldn't really sweat it, but she refuses to eat yogurt or cheese too. I don't think she's allergic or lactose-intolerant, as I have eaten dairy all along. It really seems like to me that she doesn't like the taste.
Anyone else have this issue?
Re: Does/did your LO refuse milk?
Yes - but in a different way. My son refuses rice milk (he is allergic to cow's milk but can still have small amounts of dairy), won't drink formula out of a sippy or straw cup, and barely will drink water out of a straw cup, too. He will only drink those yogurt smoothies or a juice box, but I don't want him having those all the time.
I'm not that worried about the formula for now, because it is more nutritious than milk anyway, but we just can't kick the bottle habit. I told myself I shouldn't worry so much since I am due Sunday with #2, and I don't really want to take it away right now since this will be a major life change for him, BUT...
I did buy him some rice milk in a single serving size, I'm going to try that out today and see how that goes.
That's odd that your pedi told you to quit BFing b/c the BM contains enough of the fat and calcium they need, to make up for them not drinking milk.
DD refused milk until around 18 months. I BF'd until 15 months, but when I stopped it didn't make a difference as far as her cow's milk drinking. I just made sure she ate enough cheese and yogurt to get her calcium in. What ultimately got her to drink milk was mixing it with Carnation Instant Breakfast. She drank that for a week or so, and then we slowly diluted it until it was straight milk. Now she actually likes milk.
