Wiggly Field Questions

Has anyone been to Wiggly Field at VOA Park in West Chester?  I'm thinking about having my dog's Gotcha Party there (if it ever stops raining...) but need to do some research and hoping you ladies could help...

How much does it cost?  I think there's a per car fee?

I heard the fields get muddy when it rains.  Has anyone been recently and how're the conditions?  I might hold the party on Saturday and while it's supposed to stop raining Friday.  Enough time to dry out?

Are the fenced areas pretty secure?  My Toby is an escape artist and the last thing I want is for him to get out!

Are there picnic shelters/grills near the dog park area or are these in a different location within VOA?

And lastly...any other dog park location suggestions?  I'm thinking I'd like an area for the dogs to be able to play and run around and then ideally somewhere for the humans to grill out.

Re: Wiggly Field Questions

  • I have only been once and it was prob two years ago (my buster doesn't do well around other dogs..lol)  I am pretty sure that is still $5 to get in and yes the area is secure at least it was then..Buster is a boston and also likes to get out but I did not have a problem with him.  I don't think they have grills...I know they have the pound and you can get food there but as far as cooking out I am really not sure.  Here is the website maybe call and ck with them?  Not sure of any other dog parks...GL hope you have a good party!!

  • I haven't been to Wiggly Field in a few years but here's what I recall:

    • I know you have to have the Butler County Parks pass to get to the Voice of Freedom lake/trail but I'm not sure about Wiggly Field. I don't remember having to pay but, as I mentioned, it was probably 3 years ago when we went.
    • Two separate fenced-in areas.
    • I assume it's secure but I haven't seen Toby's mad escape skills so I can't say for sure.
    • It would be muddy with normal rain so it has to be a mess right now with all the rain we've had. If it stops raining, it might be just a little messy by Saturday, not ridiculous.
    • I don't recall any shelters or grills near the dog park. It was really, really isolated from everything the last time I was there. Perhaps they have added on.

**ETA: My draft version had really pretty bullets.  Sorry for how it looks now!

    • You could look into Schappacher Park in Deerfield. There are a few tables and more shade.  However, it's one big fenced-in area, not two like Wiggly Field.

  • We haven't been there this year but I really wanna say the fee was waived this year so it doesn't cost anything to park.  Yes it get very muddy when it rains.  We try to avoid it abt a few days after rain.  I think they are secure.  Ive never seen a dog get out!  Not sure abt the picnic areas!  Sounds like a fun time!  Hope Toby loves it!

Mmmm yeah I'm pretty sure that's the dog park that Toby escaped from last time.  That little booger just kept sniffing the fence line and we did see a tiny gap but thought there was no way he could wiggle through.  Next thing we knew he was on the other side!  It was super scary especially since we just got him a couple days earlier.  Since then hubby has banned Toby from dog parks.  Sad! :(

As a side note, Four Paws has been deemed Toby safe as he's been a frequent visitor without issue *knock on wood*.

Yikes. I didn't know Toby was banned.  Did he misbehave or try to escape?

After his little great escape stunt DH was just too scared to even try taking him back to the dog park.  I maintain that he was just still adjusting to us since he hasn't tried to run away since.  It was way early in our days together, like I said.  He gets along great with all dogs.

  • What is a 'Gotcha' party?

You might be able to get a group rate at Wags water park for dogs. I know they have a shelter and a lot of chairs in one area. Not sure about the grill. But they do require temperament testing before entry.

It's the equivalent of a birthday party for dogs that are adopted/found but you don't know their age/birthdate.  So, you celebrate the day that they became a part of your family instead :).

  • I don't know anything about holding parties/private events there, and Tera has only been there once. It was okay at first.

I noticed most of owners hung out in one place and didn't follow their dogs around or pay attention to them. Well, there were about 4 dogs that were really nasty and kept chasing Tera and nipping at her. Owners didn't do anything, I was NOT impressed.

If you get the place to yourself that would be great. I also don't know about any grills, etc.
