Turning breech baby head down

Baby girl is hanging out breech/transverse. She seems to be changing positions pretty often still and the dr says that thanks to my stretched out uterus, she still has room to go head down..... but just in case she doesn't - Any tips for getting her to turn?

I'd love if anyone has reccs to local chiropractors or acupuncturists that specialize in this. I've checked out the spinning babies website, but am not having much luck with getting the pages to load.

I was able to deliver my twins vaginally (including a breech baby b!) and am really hoping to do the same this time!!

  • My dr suggested using a small flashlight and shining it towards the bottom of your belly, also have your dh talk down there, the baby will supposedly turn towards the light and noise.   It didnt work with Holden but thats becuase he was a giant ass moose baby who couldnt turn on his own.   Have you thought about a external version?   That is how we ended up getting Holden head down.

lol at ass moose! I was actually hoping you'd respond because I remembered that you had an external version. My doctor mentioned that she would try it if necessary and I'm totally open to it if it means avoiding surgery!!

Can you tell me about your experience? How far along were you when it was done? (they wait until you are full term right?)

Yup!  It was done at 37 weeks the actual version part took about 30 seconds and was completely painless!   I would talk to your dr and find out how many s/he has done in the past.   With mine I was monitored the whole time via ultrasound and then I stayed at the hospital for an hour or two after the version was completed to make sure it didnt kick start labor.   People will try and scare you, but the risks involved are really minimal and usually they are just that your water breaks, or there is a cord issue and they have to deliver you immediately via c-section.  Since my options were C-section or Version with a small chance of emergency C-section it only made sense, to me, to give it a try.   If you end up going with the version, and you want it, I can give you more info on what to expect.   Hopefully your baby will turn on its own though!

  • We tried everything, but weren't sucessful in the end. I was schedule to have the external version but they did an ultrasound a few days before the procedure and I didn't have enough fluid. We did a lot of sifting, flipping in the swimming pool and laying on an incline. I tired moxibustion, but I think she said the optimal time to start was 30 weeks, if I remember correctly. We started at 34. The chiropractic work felt good, but again I think he said we should have started earlier. I hope your babe spins on their own, but nothing we tried was so awful that I wouldn't recommend it.

  • My baby just turned her head town on Thursday or Friday. She was also breech/transverse since 32 weeks. I'm currently 37 weeks. We did some acupuncture, but all it really did for me was give me more energy to get up and move around. She gave me the mozibustin also, but DH wouldn't help me with it. I did a little research about a version and transverse babies and one place said there was a 90% success rate. What really got me was the 'if your water breaks and she's transverse' senerios, it scared me more then a c-section or version.

    David McGraw at https://www.columbiacityacupuncture.com/index.html

is my savior!  He did accupunture and moxibustion to turn my little guy!  We successfully turned him and kept him turned around 35 weeks (had him at 38)

     Go to him, he rocks!

I should add that David did the moxibustion at his office, then taught me how to do it at home- so DH did it for me.

  • My baby was transverse and I nearly had to have a verison. In fact, I was sitting in the hospital getting all greased up for the procedure when they did one more ultrasound and saw that he'd flipped!

Along with several snot-nosed prayers to God, I also believe that I went to Dr. Sarah Gibson at Queen Anne Chiropractic who is certified in the Webster technique that helps loosen the round ligaments. (https://www.queenannechiro.com/)

I did a total of 3 visits before my baby flipped.

  • PPs have given great info (and I have no personal experience to offer), but if you are interested in prenatal yoga, I think it is supposed to encourage good baby positioning.  I LOVED going to the Seattle Holistic Center.   Good luck!

  • Dr. James Myers in Redmond was the only eastside chiro I found that had experience with turning breech babies.  My doula also had some tricks up her sleeve, and I spent a lot of time watching tv and reading with my butt in the air :)

Unfortunately, we didn't find out about breech until late and I had low fluid, but I'm still glad I tried all the above just to see if it would work!  My doc wouldn't do a version but that's also always an option.  Good luck!

Oh thank you! I live and work in Redmond so I'm going to give him a call today. Worth a shot right?
