E's teacher just told me they are planning to go on a field trip to the zoo next Wednesday. The permission slips are due Friday, but she said since we just started we could have until Monday to turn in ours. She said that if E doesn't go she would just stay with the other class (aged 4-6) and that wouldn't be a problem. I am a little nervous about E going 30 mins away (45 mins from where I work) for a field trip. At the same time I know she would have fun, we just went to the zoo last month.
DH or I might be able to take off work and go with her, but it is end of the month and a very busy time for us. E is so little that I don't think she could walk the zoo entirely. Last time we all took turns carrying, pushing the stroller or holding her handing while she walked. I don't expect the adults going will be able to do that.
So, WWYD? Let her go by herself, figure a way for one of us to go, or have her stay at the school? It isn't a matter of trust, just comfort for E.
Re: WWYD, E going on a field trip
Personally I would try and go, however, if I couldnt I would ask about the ages, if they plan on taking strollers or wagons. They must not expect 1-2 yr olds to walk for a long time.
I do think its a great idea and she would have fun, but def ask some questions and if you or DH can go, I would go.
This. I highly doubt this is their first time taking kids on a field trip. Just ask them how they plan to handle kids that get tired of walking if it'll give you peace of mind. As a teacher it saddens me when I see parents not letting their kids go on a field trips because they're scared. And we're talking about 5 and 6 y/os! I'm pretty sure they'll keep the teacher: student ratio in a way so one person is not caring for multiple kids there.
