Home coming outfit sizes

Are you ladies bringing a Newborn or 0-3 month size to the hospital for your LO? I hear to bring one of each, but of course not buying two of the same thing. I was 8'7 when I born, but my Mom was a month late than her EDD (she thinks they may have gotten the dates a little wrong and doubts I was an entire month late) but, hear baby takes after Mom. Anyway, considering my H is 6'2 and LO is measuring 5 oz more now 0-3 seems like the way to go. However, it looks big. Anyway, just curious what you are doing. Thx!

Re: Home coming outfit sizes

  • I'm debating the same thing. I think I will probably get two outfits, one in each size (though I'm having a hard enough time finding one!).

  • The outfit that we picked out only came in 0-3 months.  But the tag said 8-12lbs.  I will probably take a newborn outfit just encase.  And the outfit is actually for his hospital pictures which I hope ends up being the same day as we go home.

I was 7lbs 6oz and SO was 7lbs 13oz. so I will keep my fingers crossed that the outfit isn't huge!

  • I have a NB outfit that was given to us and I love it, but it seems WAY too small. I'll probably bring that and a 0-3 outfit as well.

  • well, I thought DS #1 was going to be over 8 lbs or close to 9 lbs, I was way off and so was my OB. I was 9 lbs 11 oz when I was born (my mom was a month late with all of her girls) and DH was 8 and a half lbs at 3 weeks early. so, um, 2 huge newborns here. DS#1 was only 7 lbs 7 oz and all the clothes we brought for him swollowed him. I would recommend getting Newborn sized clothes. unless you have a 10 lb child, they'll probably still fit.

  • I will probably bring an outfit in each size. But bigger would be better. If it's too big then the LO only has to drive home in it and can be changed at home. Right now I only have a 0-3 picked out. But I am getting a suitcase of tiny stuff from a friend who had her baby in December. So things could change. Hehe

  • H was 7lbs and I was 5lbs when we were born.  I've had 2 8+lb babies, so I don't even buy newborn size.  I know I'm a bit different because I have 2 babies to base my decision on, but one thing I have learned is that they can always wear clothes big but not too small. FWIW

I'd defintely take a newborn outfit. I remember thinking they seemed so small before I had DD, so I brought 0-3. Well, the 0-3 was WAY too big for her. She wasn't really small, either...7lb 11oz.
  • My son was 6lbs10oz at birth, and his newborn outfit to come home in was huge on him.  He ended up in preemie clothes for most of the first 2-3 weeks of his life.
  • My DS was 8 lbs. 3 oz., my DD was 6 lbs. 11 oz., so anyones guess is as good as mine!  lol

Even though the newborn clothes look small, once your LO is in it, the clothes will look BIG!  lol  I think taking one of each size is a smart idea.

If your hospital offers pictures, and allows you to dress your LO, think about taking an outfit for that as well.  I believe that DD's were on the day we were released, so she was wearing her going home outfit.

  • I'm bringing a newborn size, especially since DD swam in her newborn stuff the first few weeks. 0-3 didn't fit at all.

  • I actually packed one NB and one 0-3 month outfit.  The 0-3 outfit says it will fit 7-11 lbs or something like that.  My DD was 8lbs 3 oz.  I had packed one of each for her too.  I put her in the 0-3 in the hospital and it was enormous.  She actually wore NB for about two weeks.  The 0-3 outfit I have for LO seems small even for a 0-3 outfit.  However, I (and the dr) really thinks this baby is going to be bigger than DD as long as I go full term.

This. DD was 7lbs 12oz and was in NB clothes for a few weeks. They're all squished up for awhile still.

  • With DD I had a 0-3 assuming for some reason I'd have a large baby (neither DH nor I are small people).  When she came out a healthy 6 lbs 11 oz the coming home outfit was WAY too big and DH just grabbed a simple NB sleeper :)

Definitely newborn size and it will probably be too big.  DD #1 was 6.2 at birth and down to 5.13 when we left the hospital.  She wore newborn dresses at her 3 months pics. lol

Yep- like I said, DD was 7lb11oz and in newborn clothes for at least a month or two. They're smaller than you expect them to be!

  • My sister has 3 kids who were all average sized babies and she said they all spent their first week in premie clothes...

  • With my first daughter I brought 2 newborn sleepers and a newborn outfit to the hospital (newborn diapers too). My daughter was born 9lbs 10oz and none of the clothing or diapers I brought fit her so I had to have my mom swing by my house and pick up size 1 diapers and 0-3 clothes on the way to the hospital. I'd say make sure you have a sleeper, coming home outfit, and diapers in both newborn and 0-3 month sizes.
