Does anyone use the rice-added formula?

We just switched to formula today, because of my health issues that are requiring me to take meds that aren't safe for BFing. I'm not thrilled with having to make the transition, but I have to take care of myself in order to take care of LO, so here we are.

Anyway, LO is a big-time spitter. I don't think she has reflux symptoms, as she's a pretty happy girl and never seems uncomfortable during or after a feeding, but she spits a LOT. So, I decided to try her on Similac Sensitive for Spit-Up. Right now, it's just available in ready-to-feed (I think there was a recall on the powder?), and they've got the price low because the powder isn't available, so that's convenient. Anyway, she's still spitting up a little, but not nearly as bad as before.

Is anyone else using a rice-added formula, like Enfamil AR or the Similac one we're using? Are you having any issues with it? I've heard it can cause constipation. What are you doing to help with that?

Thanks!

We haven't made the switch to formula just yet (power pumper here!), but we used the regular similac as well as the omega one without any trouble when we had our DD on formula. We didn't try any of the rice added cereals...do they recommend this for spitters? I really hesitate with early introduction of cereals. There is a lot of research to suggest a link between early introduction of cereals and food allergies. Especially if there is a family history of food allergies. If reflux isn't an issue, you could have her food sensitivities tested...it could be that she is sensitive to something in the formula. Good luck!

We are currently using the Canadian version of Enfamil AR due to DS's reflux, it is called Enfamil A+ Thickened. He has not had any constipation issues, actually the opposite! However, I have noticed he still spits up but it is clumpy like cottage cheese(TMI) so it is a lot easier to clean then BM spit up. Good luck!

  • When DS was diagnosed with reflux I was told we'd use Enfamil AR - I'm on medication that has basically no human studies with breastfeeding so we're on the constant look out for if I have to suddenly stop bfing for DS's safety.

  • We tried Enfamil AR, but he didn't adjust well.

He's been on Similac Sensitive for 2 weeks now and he's doing well. I buy Target's brand, and it's half the price.

  • We used Enfamil AR for about a week and G was really constipated (little hard turds). We went to the Parent's Choice version (Wal-Mart and half the price) and it's a little thinner and give him a little watered down juice on occasion (Pedi suggested)
