Poll: When do you know?

At what point in the day do you 'know' what kind of day it is going to be? in regards to how the kids are acting-

(of course it could change at a moments notice-)

Re: Poll: When do you know?

  • If they're still crabby and unreasonable after eating breakfast, it doesn't bode well for the day AT ALL.

  • Usually, it can go either way until it's time to get dressed.  Today, though, he woke up an hour early, screaming his head off for no reason I could find.  That doesn't bode well for our day.

  • Depends on the noises DS is making when he wakes up.  If he's half-whining, I know its going to be a rough one.  If he wakes up and he's just chattering to himself, it will likely be a good day.

  • For Parker it's mostly what time she gets up.  A matter of 20 minutes really changes whether or not she's going to be crabby or not.  For instance, this morning she was up at 6:50.  This alone would make the day difficult, but it's also a preschool day so she will be exhausted and irritable all day.  Literally if she slept another 20 or so minutes I would have known she was well rested and would be pretty good.

Rowan is quite literally always sunny and happy.  Despite some minor freak outs during the day she's a really mellow kid and if she's tired than she just naps longer/is more cuddly.

  • I am going out on a limb and will say that today looks to be a good day.  Both slept well and were in good moods this am. There has been minimal fighting so far

I will report back at the end of the day lol

  • Great question! It's usually a combo of what sounds he makes while waking up and how he is after breakfast. If he wakes up crying and whining then it usually stays that way at least until nap time. If he is happy and smiley after breakfast then it's usually going to be a great day!

I can't tell with my kids.  They can wake up happy and I think it's going to be a great day but I could be wrong!

It has more to do with me and I've been mentioning this to DH lately.  If I take most of their crap, don't do time outs and basically be a push over, they are great!  Nice huh?!

But if I'm on my game, discipline as needed and don't allow them (mostly this applies to DD) to whine and cry all day (I will send DD to her room when this happens) they are just horrible for the whole day.

I think we have this backwards......

  • Usually after breakfast is when I know.

  • Usually in the early morning hours. DS is on a floor bed and will crawl to our bed and sweetly giggle or playfully scream to get in our bed, BF, sleep more, play happily with our feet, when having a good day. When these early mornings are fun usually it is a good day. When he wakes up crying and screaming and getting frustrate then we know he will be a bit off all day for the most part. Sometimes breakfast helps, but not always.

  • Usually based on what time they wake up. For the most part, they are very consistent but today ds2 woke up at 4:30 for the day. The reason: He couldn't poop. :-/

  • The time she wakes up combined with the time of her first nap.

Attitudes at the breakfast table.  If DS is doing everything he can to touch DD#2 (and they don't even sit near each other) then I know it's going to be a doozy of a day!

  • I can tell within minutes of her waking up. If she starts the day out whiney, I know it's going to be a rough one.

  • Usually the mood after breakfast sets the tone for the day. Although there are times when I am blindsided!!

  • You just never know at age 4.5yrs as so much can change from one moment to the next.  It's kind of nice that an AM play date or just a delicious PM snack can completely change the entire course of our day.  :)

  • For DS#1 every day is a bad day - LOL.

For DS#2 I call tell if after breakfast if he is still super fussy - we're in for a bad day.
