Argh! Our little guy has had runny poops for a couple of days now, and as a result, has a pretty gnarly rash now. His appetite isn't the greatest lately as far as solids go, but he's still taking bottles ok. I've tried hydrocortisone cream, Desitin and Aquaphor and nothing seems to be making it much better. He's been naked from the waist down for hours at a time and it looks better then, but as soon as he's got a diaper on it's enflamed again. I can't keep chasing his naked butt around cleaning up pee and runny poop! I've got laundry comin' outta my ears now!
What do you ladies recommend for diaper rash? Any tried and true remedies work for you? Could it be yeast and not a diaper rash?
I feel so awful. My baby is miserable and I don't know how to make it better.
Re: Poopy/Diaper Rash ?s
I am not good at detecting yeasty vs diaper rash...
Since Will is on Alimentum, his poops are always runny. Diaper rash is a big thing in our house. I asked this question a month or so ago and tried everything under the sun.
The only thing that worked for us was using a hydrocortizone cream followed by Calmoseptine (https://www.amazon.com/Calmoseptine-Ointment-Tube-Oz-Pack/dp/B000OT9UNK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1305583440&sr=8-2) . You can get Calmoseptine at pharmacies as well.
Once it's under control - we use only Calmoseptine.
My ped had me make a paste out of Lotrimin and corn starch so it was pretty thick like toothpaste. Then add it to Butt Paste or Desitin or whatever diaper cream you have. That worked like a charm for us.
Usually the really persistent rashes are yeasty so that's why you need the Lotrimin... you could just try some straight lotrimin too. I've done that n hte past as well.
When I asked the Pedi how to tell the difference between regular diaper rash and yeast, He told me yeast were in the 'folds' and areas that touching for lack of better description (so between the cheeks and in the bends of the legs). We had to get a prescription for the yeast cream. It works though. It might be worth a call. Hang in there.
Ben had a yeast rash from his armpits all the way down to his diaper area once... it wasn't just in the folds... I think it often looks a little "raised". But really the way I tell is if I put Lotrimin on it and it gets better, then it was yeast.
Isaac's yeast has little white heads on it.... not at all like the pictures online (don't google those by the way unless you want to cry over parental neglect). Remember hydrocortisone will make yeast grow. We did best with Nystatin and no diapers for yeast.
I hated when he had the runny poops multiple times a day... he had a perpetual rash.
Ploppable poops are so much better!!!
I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
I've heard that this is great, but it really didn't work wonders for us. What did the trick on E's sensitive bum was a combo of California Baby Calendula Cream and CJ's BUTTer. CJ's BUTTer is our go-to - it usually clears things up within a day. I have a sample size if you want to try it!
